An Engineering Project Manager oversees and leads execution of engineering projects, and manages communication and coordination among different types of engineers working on a project. Supervises project schedule, budget, and communications with stakeholders.
Mechanical Department Manager leads the mechanical design team, overseeing project execution, quality assurance, and staff development across multiple offices. The role ensures compliance with industry codes, drives business development, and supports sustainable design initiatives while coordinating cross-disciplinary efforts and serving as the technical authority on complex projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and maintain a comprehensive project status system for mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines. Perform performance reviews and develop training plans for mechanical department staff. Schedule and conduct quarterly visits to satellite offices and semi-annual visits to other sites. Provide technical input and serve as Engineer of Record on selected projects. Delegate day-to-day design work to subordinates while acting as a technical resource. Support the QA/QC system for all mechanical/plumbing projects, coordinating with project managers to meet schedules. Assist in fee proposal development for new projects. Lead the mechanical and plumbing design team in developing building systems and details. Perform quality checks on projects outside direct responsibility. Coordinate with other disciplines to prepare plans and specifications. Read, interpret, and respond to UFCs, RFPs, SOWs, and TOPRs. Mentor staff, providing guidance, feedback, and career development support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Current NCEES registration. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Minimum ten years of licensed mechanical design experience in healthcare, medical office, commercial, municipal, federal, state, or office buildings. Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Trane Trace, MS Office Suite, Masterworks/SpecsIntact, Costworks/RSMeans Online. Experience managing staff, conducting performance reviews, and mentoring engineers and designers.
Preferred Skills:
Certified Plumbing Designer. Certified Energy Manager. LEED, Green Globes, or other sustainability metric. Healthcare Facility Design Professional Certification. High-Performance Building Design Professional Certification.
