Job Description

Nature of Work:
This position performs work of professional ability overseeing consultant agreements and construction contracts. Manages and coordinates all public infrastructure improvements and major repair/maintenance projects including streets, storm sewers, channels, bridges, parks, etc. Provides leadership for all team-based activities to include project management and task groups. Coordinates public capital improvement projects with other Department Divisions, Governmental Agencies, etc. Develops project related briefings for the public, the Governing Body and professional organizations as needed. Duties also include, Storm water duties include floodplain management, maintenance of the KDHE permit and drainage permit review/approval.
Primary Duties:
  • Assist in the administration of the Capital Improvement Program. Development of the department's 5-year CIP. Coordinates and directs work of consulting engineering firms and architects to ensure Prairie Village standards are implemented on project design and construction.
  • Administers Prairie Village Code Chapter XIV- Stormwater relating to flood management and storm water detention.
Manage the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements for all construction activities in Prairie Village.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Required bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related engineering field of study.
  • Preferred Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas or ability to obtain professional engineering license in the State of Kansas through reciprocity within one year of hiring.
  • Minimum of six years of civil engineering design or equivalent level of experience required.
  • Four years of street and drainage project management/construction management experience, preferably experience in municipal projects or Public Works department.
