Overall position description and job requirements with general areas of responsibility: The Vice President of Manufacturing is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day leadership of DFab' s manufacturing operations. This role oversees production scheduling, engineering, purchasing, inventory management, quality control, and regulatory compliance. The VP of Manufacturing will drive operational efficiency, support scalable growth, and ensure the successful delivery of custom design/build projects for clients across grocery, retail, convenience store, and small business sectors.
What You'll Do:
Operational Leadership Provide leadership and direction for all shop departments to ensure efficient, high-quality production Develop and execute production schedules that align with project timelines, capacity, and customer expectations Evaluate and enhance workflows, staffing levels, and overall productivity across all departments Engineering Oversight Oversee the engineering department, including technical project support Ensure alignment between engineering outputs and manufacturing capabilities Drive continuous improvement in design-for manufacturability and cross functional collaboration Purchasing & Inventory Management Lead and oversee the purchasing department including purchasing strategy, waste reduction, vendor relationships and cost control initiatives Oversee inventory management to ensure optimal stock levels, accuracy, and material availability Quality Control Lead quality assurance and quality control processes to ensure products meet internal standards and customer expectations Implement and maintain quality systems, metrics, and corrective action processes Partner with operations teams to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence Capital Equipment & Facility Management Research, evaluate, and lead the acquisition of new manufacturing equipment and technologies Develop capital expenditure plans aligned with company growth and efficiency goals Oversee facility layout optimization and equipment utilization Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement Lead the development and implementation of lean manufacturing principles across all departments Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to increase productivity and reduce costs Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability Compliance & Safety Ensure full compliance with OSHA, SWPP, Maers, air quality regulations, and hazardous waste requirements Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all employees are trained and operate in a safe environment Maintain documentation, reporting, and audit readiness for all regulatory requirements Serve as a member of the Safety Committee Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop shop department managers and key staff Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across teams Collaborate with executive leadership to align manufacturing strategy with overall business objectives
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience) 7+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in custom fabrication or design/build environments Lean Manufacturing and PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodologies that continuously improve processes, products, and organizational performance Proven experience overseeing multi-department operations including production, engineering, QCC, and purchasing Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies Experience with regulatory compliance (OSHA, environmental, and safety standards) Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and drive operational results Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills Experience in industries serving retail, grocery, or commercial environments; Preferred Familiarity with ERP systems and production planning tools; Preferred Work Environment This role operates in both office and manufacturing floor settings Regular interaction with production teams, other direct report teams and leadership staff Direct reports Yes (Engineering, Purchasing, Production Management, QCC) Submit your resume here.
