Job Description

Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Walled Lake, Michigan . Overview The role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, including developing work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems, performing engineering calculations, and assisting with project management and client standards. The position offers exposure to various areas of distribution design and opportunities for career development. Responsibilities Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV. Ensure compliance with safety requirements and design expectations. Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and conduct engineering design work. Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop. Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews. Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation efforts using engineering principles. Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements in dense urban environments. Assist with assessment and development of design packages for complex cable and conduit projects. Qualifications Completed Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or industrial engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates). Willingness to perform both field and office work, with ability to work outdoors occasionally. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar. Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS. Experience with NESC standards and design standards. Professional attributes such as a collaborative attitude, inclusivity, positive attitude, and professional demeanor.
