Job Description
Position Description The purpose of the Power Electrical Engineer/Director position is to be responsible for the engineering and work order preparation for all work on the District's electric system. The Power Electrical Engineer/Director will have expertise in power system planning and design. This position will cover generation, transmission, and distribution. The Power Electrical Engineer/Director collaborates with numerous suppliers, vendors, contractors, developers, and customers to plan, design, and implement new additions to the electric system and prepares for long range construction programs. Non-essential job functions Advise CEO of new technological developments that have value to the District Assist the CEO with the coordination of District efforts to cooperate with other utilities and associations on joint ventures, research studies, and/or the exchange of useful information Coordinate District planning with the planning of other power districts and municipalities Formulate and recommend to the CEO objectives, plans, and programs for meeting District systems planning and engineering needs Stay abreast of and knowledgeable on applicable codes, regulations, and standards relative to the District's operations Transmission line design is a plus Transmission line drafting is a plus AutoCAD drafting or equivalent program experience Write and provide technical reports Attend safety meetings and serve on safety committees as required Perform other duties assigned Education and experience Bachelor of Science in Engineering Registered Professional Engineer At least ten years of experience of Electrical Distribution System experience At least 2 years of design/implementation of PV Systems (strongly preferred) At least 4 years work experience related to electrical engineering At least 2 years of supervisory experience in an electrical engineering work setting Maintain a valid Nebraska driver's license with a responsible driving record Essential job Functions Assume responsibility for all engineering and work order preparation on the district's electric system Collaborate with customers and the Operations department personnel to design and plan relevant facilities that will provide electrical service to new and expanding loads Collaborate with District suppliers and wholesalers to ensure proper electrical service is well coordinated Analyze the distribution, substation and transmission system loading Perform and assist in planning and rate analysis studies Provide cost estimates to customers for new facilities Plan new additions to the electric system and assist in the preparation of the long-range construction program Drafting of PV system designs Engineering calculations Project tracking & management Experience with SCADA system implementation, integration, operation, support, and maintenance activities Require working knowledge of the application of engineering principles and practices involved in the design and layout of electrical distribution systems, including both overhead and underground Require working knowledge of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code Responsible for electrical distribution engineering design and layout for the expansion of the electric distribution system, power requirements, and related specifications and codes Develop, communicate, and distribute construction standards and engineering assistance in response to other department requests Oversee the preparation and maintenance of maps and official records for the District operating department and/or other departments upon request Furnish detailed requisitions to the Purchasing Dept. for the securing of materials and equipment, and to assist in the evaluation of bids Coordinate the District's construction process with government subdivisions for the maximum benefit of the District Secure permits, waivers, and contracts as required by the District from other utilities and government subdivisions for the installation and maintenance of District facilities and operation of the District's communication system Compare expenditures with budget projections for his/her department Prepare work orders for the electric system Responsible for system planning studies Provide electrical system protection recommendations to maintain system reliability Oversee the performance of inspections at various facilities to analyze proper operation and assess the status of facility conditions Must be able to drive a vehicle to the site location within the District and be able to traverse on foot on all types of terrain to make inspections Must be able to draw sketches of pole assembly, maps, and electrical structures Attend Board meetings when required
