Engineering Manager Fastener Dimensions, Inc. Pennsauken, NJ

The Engineering Manager is responsible for oversight of the Manufacturing Engineers for the design and process flow of fasteners from sales order, specification and requirements flow down, shop traveler development for all processes (heat treatment, machine, grind, NDT, DT, inspection, etc.) to delivery. The Engineering Manager interfaces all other departments to assure Engineers have adequate information from the shop and suppliers and to help prioritize projects and efforts. They write and modify procedures for design and traveler processing, as well as the supervision of the Engineers. They must be capable of training new engineers in FDI systems and specifications.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Quality Management System (QMS) Understand and follow the company's AS9100D-certified QMS. Ensure all activities are in accordance with specifications and requirements. Train engineers in the QMS system, CAD, and all applicable specifications for forging, heat treatment, tooling design, and processing of fasteners. Conduct internal audits, personnel reviews, and QMS performance reporting. Leadership and Oversight Supervise the engineering and traveler development process for components with accurate and professional control. Provide mentoring, and development of all engineering staff as required. Serve as the engineering supervisory lead, communicate priorities, special projects (ie: R & D or new tooling) to the Engineers and other Department Managers. Interact with manufacturing managers to ensure communication between engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing. Foster a culture of accountability, problem-solving, and continual improvement. Customer Focus & Product Quality Ensure that customer requirements, specifications, and contracts are reviewed and flowed down properly. Ensure that all customer specific unique requirements are applied to work instruction. This includes test types and quantities and any special handling instructions. Conduct root-cause actions for internal and customer-reported issues. Ensure that supplier selection addresses the requirements and specifications unique to each customer. Communicate the qualifications of any new or proposed suppliers to keep Engineers up to date on supplier status and capabilities, this is coordinated with the Quality Department QVL. Communicate customer quality metrics and improvement progress at management reviews Safety Controls Maintain and provide a safe operating environment for Engineering personnel. Ensure that spill hazards and environmental hazards controls, signage, and protective equipment is both available and accessible in anticipation of any possible events. Maintain supply of PPE, for specific cognizant engineering personnel, and all protective gear and correct any shortages. Internal Audit & Compliance Conduct the internal audit programs covering all AS9100 clauses as requested. Track findings, verify corrective actions, and ensure timely closure. Process Control & Continuous Improvement Monitor and document key quality metrics. Process input from Engineers for any process improvements as needed. Participate in Kaizen or process-improvement events related to quality and compliance. Partner with Operations and Mechanical Test Lab to ensure process capability and control. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related technical discipline is required. Advanced degree and NDE experience is a plus. Minimum 5 years' experience in Inspection within aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing. Minimum 5 years' experience in Engineering for mechanical devices or structures. Minimum 2 years' experience in Management of Engineering personnel or other management experience. Knowledge and experience with codes, specifications and Aerospace or U.S. Military Specifications. Knowledge and experience with microscopic examination of metals and forensic failure modes analysis is needed. Proficient in MS Word, Microsoft Excel, and general computer programs for various laboratory applications. Excellent communication and analytical skills. Behavioral Competencies Strong leadership presence and accountability mindset. Excellent cross-functional collaboration (Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain). Data-driven decision-making and continuous-improvement orientation. Clear communicator with both shop floor and management level personnel.
