What to Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Production Engineering Manager to lead the development and improvement of new automation equipment and assembly lines of our LFP Cell manufacturing operations. We are seeking an energetic, skilled, cost-conscious, team-oriented individual to be responsible for the performance of an equipment and process engineering team. The incumbent will manage a team of engineers responsible for equipment and process related metrics related to manufacturing of Tesla products. The team will drive improvement in overall equipment efficiency and factory yield. Improvement activity will be driven through documented actions with clear due dates and expected results. The engineering manager will manage their team to generate the highest value from every employee while maintaining a high level of technical ability. The ideal candidate will have a high aptitude for quickly learning new skillsets, along with the ability to lead in high-demanding situations. We expect leaders to start with strengths in a given field (e.g., Electrode and Cell assembly, laser welding, roll to roll operations, mechanical/electrical engineering, robotics, PLC programming, vision systems, Python, HMI scripting, etc.) and then expand their expertise into all other areas by collaborating with team members. What You'll Do
Tesla leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams' safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations
Collaborate with cross functional teams in the commissioning, start of production and ramp up of high volume LFP manufacturing operations. Sustain 24 by 7 production operations to meet build plan targets, demonstrating competitive OEE
Clearly define expectations for the engineering team which improve overall MFG line performance
Drive improvement activities from inception through closure using the engineering resources on their team
Focus on movement of process and equipment related metrics in the positive direction
Innovate processes and procedures to streamline production activities on the production floor
Push the team to adhere to strict 5S standards and maintain cleanliness on the floor and within automation cells
Provide support for new equipment installation, startup, and handover and improve preventative maintenance activities to decrease overall downtime
Observe all safety policies during the execution of required tasks
Collaborate with MFG engineering and controls teams to install and troubleshoot new processes and equipment What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
7+ years in a highly automated, high volume manufacturing facility, good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, Spare Parts Management
Must understand general manufacturing processes, automation, and controls
Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and desire to learn
Must be adaptable in work schedule (including compressed work week and night shift) and working environment
Effective verbal and written communications skills along with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization
Capable of providing constructive feedback to subordinates
Able to drive engineering problems to true root cause and elimination
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information
