full-time AP Executive Staffing is partnering with an established manufacturing organization in Buffalo, NY to identify a Product Planning Engineer . This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys the analytical and strategic side of engineering and is interested in moving toward product planning, market analysis, and business decision-making . Rather than focusing on traditional design engineering, this individual will evaluate new product opportunities, analyze customer and market needs, and help determine which opportunities make sense from both a technical and business perspective.
What You'll Be Doing:
Evaluate and assess potential new product opportunities from initial concept through recommendation. Gather information from engineering, sales, leadership, and customers to understand the true business and technical need. Analyze whether potential opportunities are valuable to the customer, valuable to the organization, and technically feasible . Translate technical concepts into clear business recommendations. Conduct market, customer, competitive, and opportunity analysis. Collaborate closely with engineering, commercial, product, and leadership teams. Meet directly with customers and operational teams to better understand applications, processes, and challenges. Develop opportunity assessments, market requirements documents, business cases, and executive-level summaries. Build an understanding of pricing, competitive dynamics, market size, and customer value. Travel to customer locations and industry events as needed, approximately 15% .
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline ; Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Approximately 2-6 years of professional experience in engineering, applications engineering, technical support, field engineering, or a related technical role. Experience within manufacturing, industrial equipment, process-driven environments, or similar technical industries is preferred. Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work through ambiguity, ask thoughtful questions, and develop an independent point of view. Comfortable collaborating with both technical and business-focused stakeholders. Entrepreneurial mindset with the initiative to investigate problems and find answers independently. Genuine interest in transitioning toward the business and strategic side of engineering and product decisions .
