Job Description Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Civil Field Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all civil construction activities on utility-scale solar, battery storage, and electrical infrastructure projects. This position provides field leadership to ensure civil work is executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards. The Civil Field Manager will coordinate subcontractors, site crews, equipment, materials, engineering, survey, quality control, and other project stakeholders while serving as the primary civil construction leader in the field. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day civil construction activities for utility-scale solar and related infrastructure projects. Direct and coordinate civil subcontractors, site crews, operators, surveyors, and other field personnel. Oversee site grading, excavation, drainage, erosion and sediment control, access roads, foundations, underground utilities, trenching, concrete, and other civil scopes. Review civil drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and construction documents to ensure field execution aligns with design requirements. Coordinate daily activities with Project Management, Engineering, Electrical, Procurement, Safety, Quality, and subcontractors. Develop and maintain short-term and look-ahead schedules for civil construction activities. Monitor productivity, manpower, equipment utilization, material availability, and subcontractor performance. Identify field issues, conflicts, and potential delays and work with project leadership to develop solutions. Coordinate surveying and layout activities and verify that work is constructed to the required tolerances. Ensure construction activities comply with project specifications, permits, environmental requirements, and applicable codes. Partner with the Safety team to maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company and project safety requirements. Work closely with Quality Control/Quality Assurance personnel to ensure civil work meets project requirements. Review subcontractor work, quantities, daily reports, and progress against contract requirements. Assist with tracking project costs, change orders, time impacts, and potential claims. Participate in project meetings and provide accurate updates regarding civil progress, risks, manpower, equipment, and schedule. Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress quantities, photographs, inspection records, and as-built information. Support commissioning and turnover activities related to civil scopes. Mentor and provide direction to Civil Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel. Perform other duties as required to successfully deliver the project. Qualifications 7+ years of progressive civil construction experience, preferably in utility-scale solar, renewable energy, heavy civil, or large infrastructure projects. 3+ years in a field leadership role such as Civil Superintendent, General Superintendent, Civil Manager, or Field Manager. Experience managing large civil subcontractors and multiple field crews. Strong understanding of earthwork, mass grading, roads, drainage, underground utilities, trenching, foundations, and concrete construction. Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, survey information, and construction schedules. Experience with construction scheduling and project management systems. Strong understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and productivity. Ability to identify constructability issues and develop practical field solutions. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing construction environment. OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or similar construction software is preferred. Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work at remote project sites. Preferred Experience Utility-scale solar PV construction. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Large-scale grading and earthwork. Tracker foundations and pile installation. Underground collection systems and duct banks. Substation and switchyard civil construction. Stormwater management and SWPPP requirements. Geotechnical and soil conditions common to large renewable-energy projects. Experience managing projects with significant self-perform and subcontracted civil scopes.
