Job Description
Industry leading electrical products manufacturer in the West Chester, PA area is seeking a Sr Director of Engineering to oversee product innovation and modification processes. You will lead their product engineering team in the design, development, and execution of advanced electrical products. In this role, you will bridge technical execution with strategic product vision, overseeing cross-functional teams spanning electrical design, embedded systems, PCB engineering, and firmware integration. You will drive the physical product roadmap from initial architecture through high-volume manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership:
Direct and mentor multi-disciplinary engineering teams (hardware, PCB, embedded firmware, testing) through the full product development lifecycle (NPD/NPI).Technical Strategy & Architecture:
Oversee electrical architecture decisions, power electronics, sensor integration, circuit design, and signal integrity for next-generation electrical hardware.Product Execution:
Partner closely with Product Management and Operations to ensure hardware designs align with product requirements, cost targets (COGS), schedule, and quality benchmarks. Design for Excellence (DFX): Enforce robust Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Testability (DFT), and Reliability (DFR) practices to streamline transitioning designs to manufacturing partners.Compliance & Standards:
Ensure product compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., UL, CE, FCC, RoHS, ISO) and safety requirements for electrical equipment.Resource & Budget Management:
Manage departmental budgets, engineering tooling, lab equipment, resource allocation, and external vendor/partner relationships.Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field; Master's (MSEE) or MBA preferred.Experience:
10+ years in electrical hardware/product design with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or direct leadership capacity.Technical Expertise:
Proven background taking complex electrical or electromechanical products from concept to mass production.Knowledge Base:
Deep understanding of power supply design, microcontrollers, analog/digital circuit design, mixed-signal systems, and embedded hardware validation.Manufacturing Experience:
Direct experience working with domestic and international contract manufacturers (CMs), vendor sourcing, and component supply chains.Leadership Skills:
Demonstrated ability to build, retain, and inspire high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment. #jdpBenefits
