Commissioning Electrical Project Manager -
Data Center Construction Position Summary:
The Commissioning Electrical Project Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the commissioning, startup, testing, energization, and turnover of electrical systems on mission-critical data center construction projects. This role ensures all electrical infrastructure is installed, tested, commissioned, and documented in accordance with project specifications, client requirements, and industry best practices. Working closely with project leadership, commissioning agents, electrical subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, and owner representatives, the Commissioning Electrical Project Manager manages commissioning schedules, testing procedures, energization plans, issue resolution, and turnover activities for complex electrical systems supporting hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data centers. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in mission-critical electrical infrastructure, commissioning processes, electrical operations, and project management.
Lead commissioning efforts for all electrical systems from construction completion through owner turnover. Develop and manage electrical commissioning schedules, milestones, and deliverables. Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, startup, operations, and client teams. Track commissioning progress and ensure adherence to project schedules. Identify commissioning risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Electrical Systems Commissioning:
Manage commissioning activities for mission-critical electrical systems including: Utility service and medium-voltage distribution Switchgear and switchboards Transformers UPS systems Battery energy storage systems Static transfer switches (STS) Power distribution units (PDUs) Remote power panels (RPPs) Emergency generators Generator paralleling controls Automatic transfer switches (ATS) Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) Grounding and bonding systems Verify system readiness prior to energization and testing activities.
Testing & Startup Coordination:
Coordinate factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and startup activities. Review and approve commissioning scripts, testing procedures, and method statements. Facilitate pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing (IST). Coordinate vendor field service engineers and manufacturer representatives. Ensure testing activities comply with project requirements and client standards.
Energization Management:
Develop and oversee electrical energization plans. Coordinate energization sequences with project stakeholders. Ensure all prerequisites, inspections, and approvals are completed prior to energization. Support energy isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Monitor electrical switching operations and startup activities.
Issue Resolution & Deficiency Management:
Maintain commissioning issue logs and deficiency tracking systems. Lead resolution efforts for electrical system deficiencies. Coordinate corrective actions among contractors, vendors, and project teams. Verify closure of issues before turnover and client acceptance. Conduct root cause analysis for commissioning failures or system performance concerns.
Documentation & Turnover:
Review commissioning documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Ensure collection and organization of:
Startup reports Test reports Equipment certifications As-built documentation O&M manuals Warranty documentation Manage turnover packages and final client deliverables. Support owner training and operational readiness activities.
Stakeholder Coordination:
Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical commissioning activities.
Coordinate with:
General Contractor project teams Electrical subcontractors Commissioning agents Equipment manufacturers Utility providers Owner representatives Facility operations teams Facilitate commissioning meetings and provide regular status updates.
Safety & Compliance:
Promote a culture of safety during startup and commissioning activities. Ensure compliance with
OSHA, NFPA
70E, client standards, and site safety requirements. Verify adherence to energy isolation and energized work procedures. Participate in commissioning risk assessments and safety planning activities.
Qualifications Required:
7+ years of experience in electrical construction, commissioning, mission-critical operations, or project management. 3+ years of direct commissioning experience supporting data center, mission-critical, industrial, or utility projects. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems and critical power infrastructure. Experience managing commissioning schedules, testing procedures, and turnover activities.
Ability to read and interpret:
Electrical one-line diagrams Protection and control schematics Commissioning procedures Construction drawings and specifications Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders in complex project environments.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field. Experience supporting hyperscale or colocation data center projects. Electrical Journeyman, Master Electrician, or equivalent technical background. OSHA 30 Certification.
NFPA 70E
Training or Certification. Commissioning certifications such as CxA, CCP, CBCP, or equivalent. Experience with medium-voltage systems and utility coordination.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk active construction sites and commissioning areas for extended periods. Ability to access electrical rooms, rooftops, substations, and mechanical spaces. Ability to wear arc-flash PPE and other required safety equipment. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work flexible hours during critical commissioning, startup, and energization events.

INDS Pay:
$130,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
