Job Description GPI is seeking a Director of Engineering - Building Systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural) to lead building systems work across the Metro New York region. This leadership role is responsible for coordinating delivery across disciplines, supporting business growth in New York City, and expanding into a strong Manhattan-based team. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Coordination (Suffern, NY) Lead and coordinate established MEPS discipline leaders (mechanical, electrical, structural) located in the Suffern, NY office. Align staffing, schedules, and priorities across teams. Mentor project managers and technical staff and support career development. Project Delivery Leadership Ensure projects maintain clear scope, realistic schedules, and proper budget controls. Identify and proactively address delivery risks early. Support project teams in resolving technical and coordination challenges. Quality Control / Quality Assurance Enhance and maintain QA/QC processes for building systems work. Ensure proper coordination across disciplines before deliverables are issued. Reduce rework by identifying and addressing recurring issues. NYC Growth & Business Development Support Support pursuits and proposals in NYC by shaping technical approach and staffing plans. Participate in client meetings and interviews. Leverage existing project experience and staff capabilities to win new work. NYC Office Staffing & Team Growth (Long-Term) Help build and grow a Manhattan-based MEPS team. Partner with recruiting to identify, interview, and hire candidates. Support integration of NYC staff with regional teams. Collaboration Work closely with the Branch Manager on staffing and delivery commitments. Partner with the Strategic Growth leader on pursuits and client development. Coordinate with Business Development leadership on pipeline tracking and opportunity selection.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or related field). 15+ years of experience in building systems design and/or project delivery. Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams. Strong knowledge of NYC market, codes, and building systems delivery. Experience supporting pursuits, proposals, and client interviews. Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget on complex projects. Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and technical review practices. Effective communication and leadership skills. Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Work Environment:
Hybrid role with regular presence in both NYC and Suffern offices. Client site visits and meetings within the NYC metro area required. Collaborative, team-based environment focused on delivery and growth. Requirements Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize Point and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
