You will be leading a dedicated team of CAD creatives while working closely with designers, project managers, and fabricators to bring highly custom, unforgettable experiences to life—from interactive museum displays and mechanical prototypes to immersive corporate environments. We are looking for a hands-on leader who deeply values the design/build process and has real-world museum build experience . You should excel at taking a creative vision, guiding your team to engineer the solutions and draft it accurately, and then walking out to the shop floor to help see it produced in the real world. To succeed here, you must thrive in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, utilizing strong technical acumen to bridge the gap between initial design intent, structural integrity, and final custom fabrication.
What You'll Be Doing Lead and Mentor:
Direct, support, and manage a growing 3-4 person CAD & Prototyping team, maintaining a dependable workflow, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring high-quality output. Through this process you will develop early-career mechanical engineers into strong exhibit engineers. Bridge the
Gap:
Serve as the key link between the Creative Department and the Production Department, translating project concepts into accurate, buildable drawings for fabrication, assembly, and installation.
Prototyping & Custom Fabrication:
Oversee and directly contribute to the development of complex mechanical prototypes, custom casework, and dynamic interactive elements. You will draw heavily on your past experience engineering permanent museum installations to anticipate fabrication challenges before they hit the shop floor.
Quality Control & Execution:
Ensure all project specifications are captured, oversee on-site measurements, and support the production team with rapid drawing adjustments.
Process Optimization:
Continuously seek ways to improve drafting standards, CNC integration, and overall team efficiency.
What We're Looking For Proven Museum & Experiential Build Experience:
You must possess a verifiable track record of engineering and managing actual, physically built projects within the museum, themed entertainment, or permanent experiential spaces. We are looking for candidates who have seen complex museum exhibits through from concept to final, physical installation. Your day to day would include development of project shop drawings and submittals, addressing ADA and accessibility compliance requirements and promoting the use of effective museum-grade materials and casework within the scope of our projects.
Leadership Skills:
Proven experience leading, organizing, and mentoring a drafting team in a collaborative environment.
Extensive CAD Experience:
Highly proficient in CAD Software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Fusion 360, Revit, etc) and/or other 3D modeling programs.
Practical Experience Background:
Desired background with detailing permanent casework, mechanical prototypes, dimensional design, AV and interactive integration and finished carpentry. A working familiarity with CNC operation, value engineering, equipment setup, and machining processes is highly ideal.
The Maker Mentality:
You are a passionate inventor and maker who loves the DIY spirit, thrives under pressure, and takes every opportunity to stay involved with your creations from concept to install.
