Mechanical Engineering Manager

The Manager of Mechanical Engineering leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for designing ruggedized mechanical enclosures—primarily sheet‑metal and 3D‑printed plastic structures—that house compute and storage servers and other electronic subsystems. These systems must meet stringent customer requirements and operate reliably in demanding environmental conditions, including those governed by military standards. This leader must bring a strong blend of technical expertise, team leadership, project management, and problem‑solving agility to support diverse and evolving customer needs. Key Responsibilities People Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Mechanical Engineers with varying backgrounds and experience levels. Foster a collaborative, innovative, and "can‑do" team culture. Promote teamwork, open communication, and mutual support within the group. Team & Project Management Use deep understanding of each team member's skills, experience, and working style to make effective assignments. Conduct regular team meetings to maintain situational awareness and alignment. Ensure adequate staffing, tools, and resources to meet internal and customer‑driven schedules. Maintain oversight of all projects, ensuring they stay on schedule and on budget; take corrective action when needed. Technical Oversight Review, critique, and approve technical drawings and models; facilitate timely and effective peer design reviews. Support engineers with hands‑on design assistance when required to maintain project momentum. Ensure designs meet quality, manufacturability, and performance requirements. Quality Management Ensure compliance with ISO‑based design procedures and update procedures as necessary. Promote best practices in mechanical design and encourage sharing of innovative techniques across the team. Manufacturing Collaboration Ensure accurate transfer of mechanical design data (e.g., SolidWorks Composer deliverables) to Manufacturing Engineering prior to prototype builds. Cultivate a close working relationship with Manufacturing Engineering, considering and incorporating their feedback to improve designs. Customer & Vendor Engagement Provide technical briefings and project status updates to customers. Build and maintain productive relationships with third‑party vendors and suppliers. Administrative Duties Conduct annual performance reviews and manage compensation discussions. Oversee administrative functions including timesheets, vacation approvals, travel authorizations, and other operational needs. Security Compliance Ensure team compliance with all security procedures, including proper handling of CUI materials. Proactively manage security processes to minimize impact on team productivity. Required Qualifications 5-10 years of proven experience leading Mechanical Engineering teams. Demonstrated experience designing mechanical enclosures for electronic assemblies, including rackmount chassis for compute and storage applications. Strong knowledge of MIL‑STD 810G/H and related test procedures, facilities, and equipment. Expertise in electronic packaging, electromechanical design, sheet‑metal fabrication, and 3D modeling. Proficiency in SolidWorks and familiarity with

standards. Ability to translate customer concepts into engineering requirements and provide clarifying recommendations. Skilled in project cost modeling, including time, materials, and NRE budgeting. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Full‑time on‑site presence required; must exhibit a professional demeanor. BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering . SECRET clearance strongly preferred . Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Manassas, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $185000.00/yr.
