Job Title:
Environmental Engineer Job Description This role will focus on water resources engineering within the hydro organization. The position involves supporting hydro reservoir management by implementing the overall water control plan across several watersheds, which includes operational forecasting, flood control, and drought management. The role will utilize software systems and data from various sources such as hydrologic equipment, weather forecasts, and historical operational information. Responsibilities Manage water resources, including hydro operations forecasting, flood control, and drought management. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. Conduct watershed modeling using river analysis software. Support and maintain gaging systems and equipment. Manage computer systems and the HOMS (Hydro Optimization Management System). Develop and configure computer models. Program to support software developed and maintained by reservoir management. Essential Skills Environmental engineering Environmental compliance Environmental science Environmental monitoring Civil engineering Chemical engineering Water resource management Hydrology Hydrological modeling software Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required Basic understanding of water resource management, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, watershed modeling, fluid mechanics, and computer model development and configuration Proficiency in programming and scripting languages Familiarity with gaging systems and equipment, data collection, and dissemination Results-oriented approach Ability to work beyond traditional schedules, especially during flood control operations Strong communication skills for presenting technical information Ability to build relationships across departments and support organizations within the hydro industry Ability to foster collaboration and teamwork Work Environment The position is based in Birmingham, Alabama, and involves working both in an office and remotely. The role requires availability beyond regular business hours and during weekends to support real-time operations, especially during events like floods. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
