Job Description
Ergon Refining in Vicksburg currently has an opening for an Environmental Engineer. The position provides technical and regulatory support by ensuring continued compliance with existing environmental regulations and monitoring and evaluating emerging environmental regulatory requirements for business impact and assisting in implementation. The individual is instrumental in advancing the organization towards excellence by driving the continuous improvement of our environmental processes and programs. Environmental Engineer Responsibilities Provide technical support, leadership, advice, and/or troubleshooting for regulatory compliance with environmental regulations Interpret and apply complex environmental regulatory requirements to refining operations Facilitate accurate, timely and efficient preparation and submission of compliance reports and plans to local, state, and federal agencies Provide efficient approaches to complex environmental challenges (new regulatory requirements, added operational flexibility, cost and complexity reductions, etc.) under constrained timelines Maintain a proven understanding of refinery configuration, equipment, process flows, discharge or emission points, associated waste streams, pollution control equipment technology, and emission measurement techniques Work closely with operations, maintenance, inspection, other engineering disciplines and contractors to ensure that environmental requirements are clearly understood and conveyed throughout the organization Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local agency structure, procedures, and relevant environmental regulations Monitor and evaluate emerging environmental regulatory requirements for business impact and assist in the implementation Lead/participate in agency inspections and compliance/enforcement issues as appropriate Review projects and Management of Change actions (including both physical and operational changes) to assess permitting and regulatory requirements Maintain air emission calculations on an ongoing basis for stationary combustion sources, tanks, terminal and loading racks, accidental releases, wastewater, and equipment fugitive emissions Ensure emission calculation bases and assumptions are representative and documented Work with site staff to compile and ensure accuracy of input data used for emission calculations (e.g. process data, lab data, source test data, analyzer data, throughput data, releases, chemical usage, waste shipments, etc.) Prepare/submit permit applications to the relevant federal, state, and local agencies and obtain the necessary permits from relevant agencies Revise emission calculations as needed to reflect site-level operational or permit changes Perform benchmarking to understand emission performance trends Evaluate emissions performance against permit limits and other regulatory requirements Ensure data integrity to meet control, monitoring, recordkeeping, work practice, and/or reporting requirements in conformance with regulatory requirements Develop, review, and deploy the site's environmental management system in alignment with
ISO 14001
Work to continuously improve our environmental management systems and environmental performance Identify and advise on projects that address environmental risks or add significant value Recommend and lead implementation of actions necessary to achieve continuous improvement Establish and monitor environmental KPIs that align with company environmental policies and strategies Develop and implement tools to improve emission calculation accuracy and efficiency Participate in the refinery on-call environmental duty rotation and respond to refinery during environmental incidents following the Incident Command Structure Oversee contract resources within deadline and budget constraints Provide guidance and support to other environmental staff in areas of expertise Participate as appropriate in industry trade association working groups Participate in the refinery 24/7 on call environmental duty rotation Environmental Engineer Skills/Requirements High levels of Trust, Humility, Character, Integrity, Resolve, and Respect B.S. degree in environmental engineering or related science, required Five years of environmental engineering experience or related engineering experience in the refining or chemical processing industry, required Requires a self-motivated person that is detail-oriented with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills Excellent technical writing and presentation skills Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Knowledge of EPA, DOT, and USCG regulations relating to the refining industry. The person selected must be self-motivated with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills and successfully complete and pass a Functional Job Capacity Evaluation (FCE). Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. A clean MVR is required.
