6 Program/Location Department of Environmental Protection Watershed & Land Management Land Resource Protection Flood Hazard & Stormwater Engineering 501 East State Street Trenton, NJ 08625 Scope of Eligibility Open to permanent employees in a competitive title who work for the Division of Land Resource Protection and meet the requirements below. Description Under limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs professional engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, noise pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required. Specific to the Position Reviews and evaluates permit applications for compliance with the Flood Hazard Area Control Act Rules, applying sound engineering judgment and regulatory interpretation. Conducts and participates in pre-application meetings to provide technical guidance and ensure applicant understanding of regulatory requirements. Assists the Deputy Attorney General in permit appeals by preparing technical analyses, documentation, and expert support. Prepares detailed engineering reports to support permitting decisions and ensure a clear administrative record. Responds to public and stakeholder inquiries with accurate, timely, and professional guidance. Maintains and updates the Bureau's electronic permitting database to support regulatory tracking, transparency, and operational efficiency. Preferred Skill Set Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the Flood Hazard Area Control Act Rules and their application to complex permitting scenarios. Effectively collaborates with multidisciplinary staff while also exercising independent judgment to manage assignments with minimal supervision. Applies strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical and regulatory issues, prioritize competing demands, and manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced regulatory environment while meeting deadlines. Requirements
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment.
NOTE:
A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work.
NOTE:
A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience.
