Job Description

Environmental Engineer 1#26-09435 Birmingham, AL All On-site Job Description The Engineer 1 position requires 0-5 years of experience in a related field and an accredited bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. An advanced degree is also desirable. Job responsibilities include implementation of the water control plan for the Alabama Power watersheds which includes operational forecasting, flood control, and drought management. Reservoir operations use software systems and data from many sources to implement the water control plan: hydrologic equipment and instrumentation, weather forecasts, and historical operational information. A remote network of real-time instrumentation is also maintained by reservoir management personnel and contractors including rain, stage and temperature sensors. Reservoir management also provides watershed modeling using river analysis software. To facilitate these functions, computer systems and a software suite referred to as HOMS (Hydro Optimization Management System) are also operated and maintained by reservoir management. This position will support the hydro reservoir management team with these activities.

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE
The position will be located in Client Location. The position is part of a team that works remotely beyond regular business hours and during weekends to support real-time systems. The position will be hybrid, combining both office-based and remote work.
POSITION SUMMARY
The position will fill a water resources engineer in the Client hydro organization. Client owns and operates hydro generating plants across several watersheds. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required
Experience:
A basic understanding of: Water resource management Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling Watershed modeling Fluid mechanics Computer model development and configuration Programming and scripting languages Familiar with: Gaging systems and equipment Data collection and dissemination
