Entry-level Environmental Engineer Location US-VA-Reston Category Early Career - Engineer Position Type Full Time Regular What we are looking for Are you looking for a career that will make an impact globally and within your local community? SCS is at the forefront of developing sustainable environmental solutions through innovative engineering with a focus on the solid waste industry, emission reductions, and renewable energy projects. As an entry-level engineer, you will provide engineering/design support to the Mid-Atlantic team within our existing solid waste practice which is focused on providing engineering and environmental services to private and municipal clients in the landfill, landfill gas, and solid waste management industries. You'll receive hands-on training and mentorship while gaining valuable experience in both the field and the office. Potential projects include landfill and landfill gas design, engineering and CQA, air quality compliance and permitting, renewable energy, and environmental protection support. You'll work closely with a team spanning South Carolina, the Mid-Atlantic, and New England, with primary focus on Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. You will be based out of our Reston, VA office with occasional local travel for fieldwork. How you can make an impact As an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer, you will contribute to a variety of technical, regulatory, and engineering tasks, including: Landfill, landfill gas collection and control system, industrial wastewater, and stormwater permitting and design, including construction plans, specifications, and construction documents at a wide range of facilities working closely with both private and municipal clients Preparing and supporting air permit and solid waste permit applications and regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation and engineering analysis as requested. Assisting with air compliance, emissions inventories, and quantifying pollutant emissions from various sources. Utilizing air modeling tools to assess ambient air quality impacts and potential health risks Support for renewable energy projects including gas-to-energy and solar generation Oversee and document construction quality assurance observations for compliance with approved engineering plans. Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission. Independently coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and clients with project manager support and oversite. Effectively communicate with other technical professionals in a team setting to achieve client goals. Coordinate with CAD drafters for design plans/figures or use AutoCAD for design plans/figures. Prepare calculations in support of design documents and reports as requested Conducting occasional site visits and fieldwork to support data collection, emissions monitoring, and compliance inspections. Travel to local facilities may be required for meetings. Participating in professional development opportunities, including training on regulatory updates and technical workshops. Participate in industry groups and conferences including presentations and technical articles. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems, Chemical or Geotechnical Engineering required. Other degrees in Environmental Science may be considered. 3 months of relevant solid waste, environmental and/or engineering internship, work and/or research experience required. Coursework or experience in air quality, environmental compliance, or related fields preferred. Ability to use, or learn, AutoCAD or comparable software is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite required, database or modeling software experience a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Valid Driver's License with a driving record in good standing required. Learn more about our entry-level professionals!
