Senior Human Factors Researcher, Hardware Design

Payrate:

$65-$70/hr on W2

Overall Responsibilities:

As a Senior Human Factors researcher, you will be the Client of the physical and digital user experience for Client's next-generation premium computing hardware. You will play a pivotal role in the consumer electronics product development life cycle. Joining a multi-disciplinary team you will apply your expertise in human physiology, cognition, and perception to define the future of the product ecosystem. You will lead critical research initiatives that span foundational hardware safety and comfort, and market-leading user experience differentiation, ensuring that every interaction—from the first unboxing to high-intensity creative workflows—is seamless, comfortable, and distinctly for the product. You will partner with cross-functional leads (e.g., ID, PM, PD) to create and run an end to end user experience plan consisting of: surveys, in-depth interviews, usability studies, and diary studies — owning the creation of materials, as well as the analysis and reporting (both quantitative and qualitative). You'll present your findings to the Product Leads to influence the design of the product / experience. As a researcher, the expectation is that you will support your findings with strong verbal and written communications to develop surveys and studies that lead to detailed analysis of the product — helping to shape future iterations. Responsibilities

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative research and task analysis to collect different data to research the interaction of humans and products
  
• Apply principles of human capabilities and constraints (e.g., physiology, cognition, perception) and knowledge of the user and their environments to assist in the development and evaluation of effective hardware design for smart home devices
  
• Utilize human engineering tools and methods (e.g., physical ergonomics, anthropometry, biomechanics, usability evaluation, statistical techniques and, task/workload analysis)
  
• Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and validate human product interaction
  
• Inspire change at all stages of product development by delivering exciting oral, written, and visual presentations about your findings Minimum Qualifications
  

Education:

MS or PhD in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Experimental Psychology, or a related field with a focus on human-hardware interaction and ergonomics

Experience:

6+ years of experience in consumer electronics research, with a proven track record of influencing the design of successful hardware product

Technical Proficiency:

Expert in applied statistics and experimental design; experience with data manipulation tools (e.g., R, Python, or Matlab)

Strategic Thinking:

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously, prioritizing time effectively in a fast-paced hardware development cycle

Autonomous Problem Solving:

Ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms and vice versa, able to troubleshoot an issue with little guidance and direction Preferred Qualifications

Hardware Specialist:

Extensive experience in physical ergonomics, including the use of force sensors, thermal imaging, and motion capture for device evaluation

Mobile-First Expertise:

Background in researching ecosystem continuity and how users transition between mobile and desktop environments

Sustainability Mindset:
