Job Description

Seeking qualified professionals to support Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Safety (AVS) programs through human factors research, analysis, and mission execution activities evaluating human-system interaction and operational performance across the National Airspace System (NAS). This role supports high-impact aviation safety initiatives, modernization efforts, and emerging technologies shaping the future of the National Airspace System (NAS). Key Responsibilities Conduct human factors research and analysis related to human-system interaction and operational performance within the NAS Design research approaches, including identifying variables, data collection methods, and analytical frameworks Collect, analyze, and interpret data to evaluate human performance, safety, and operational effectiveness Support development and evaluation of systems, procedures, and operational concepts from a human factors perspective Prepare technical reports, research findings, and recommendations for Government and stakeholder use Collaborate with FAA program offices, engineers, analysts, and stakeholders on human factors and system integration initiatives Qualifications Master's degree in human factors, human factors and applied cognition, psychology, engineering psychology, or applied experimental psychology with a concentration in aviation human factors, and five years relevant work experience in human factors engineering research in the aviation field Actual experience applying research methods and statistical analyses in applied experimental aviation research A master's degree may be waived with eight years of experience in aviation-related human factors and a bachelor's degree U.S. Citizen or Green Card Permanent Resident (minimum 3+ years of U.S. residency) and Public Trust approval Applicant Preferences Applied experience in human factors, human performance, or human-system integration within aviation or technical environments Experience working with FAA Headquarters and supporting cross-organizational collaboration and executive-level communications Familiarity with advanced research methods, statistical modeling, and applied human factors evaluation techniques Experience evaluating human performance in operational environments and supporting human-system integration, system design, or safety-related research activities •
