Summary:
The main function of a Industrial Engineer is to design, develop, test and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis and production coordination. A typical Industrial Engineer is tasked with increasing productivity through the management of people, methods of business organization and technology.
Job Responsibilities:
Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product. Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization. Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities. Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization. Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards. Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost. Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control. Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency using drafting tools and computer.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the subject matter expert in ergonomics, supporting launch and pre-production manufacturing ergonomic activities for new and major vehicle programs in Warren and GM propulsion manufacturing sites across North America. Ensure manufacturing ergonomics requirements are implemented and met on all new vehicle programs. Conduct ergonomic risk analysis of new product designs and establish threshold limit values. Work collaboratively with product designers, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, and assembly plant personnel, including UAW and non-UAW representatives. Manage all ergonomic issues to closure; lead root cause analysis efforts and coordinate follow-up through appropriate engineering and plant teams. Use 3D Virtual Digital Human Model (DHM) simulations and 3D vehicle CAD to determine acceptable manufacturing ergonomic parameters for new vehicle product assembly. Initiate and lead ergonomics initiatives and projects to continuously improve processes, solution left, and design out ergonomic issues before physical builds begin. Provide launch program ergonomic issue status and updates to future vehicle program and plant leadership. Provide timely written reports and updates on all ergonomics projects to support analytics and lessons learned. Support manufacturing operations ergonomics by bringing current plant ergonomic issues to the appropriate design and manufacturing engineers for resolution. Conduct ergonomic assessments of minimis, dunnage, point-of-use (POU) racks, lift-assist interaction with parts, and ergonomic platforms to ensure correct procurement. Be involved in operator layouts for the assembly line. Support implementation of IE launch deliverables and station readiness as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering. Minimum 2 years of experience in ergonomics or industrial engineering, ideally in an automotive manufacturing environment. Experience conducting ergonomic risk assessments, evaluating assembly jobs for injury risk, and analyzing lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and twisting motions. Ability to determine whether tasks exceed ergonomic limits using established assessment methodologies and standards. Experience with manufacturing and assembly process engineering, including workstation design, material flow, POU racks, dunnage, lift-assist devices, operator layouts, and manufacturing launches. Familiarity with assembly, engine castings, or stamping assembly environments. Proficiency with CAD tools and comfort working with 3D data in a manufacturing context. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present findings and updates to engineering and plant leadership. Preferred Experience with 3D Digital Human Modeling (DHM) simulation tools to evaluate manufacturing processes in a virtual environment prior to physical builds. Experience supporting automotive manufacturing program launches. Familiarity with GM Manufacturing System (GMS) principles or similar lean/continuous improvement frameworks. Experience collaborating with UAW representatives and cross-functional engineering teams in a matrixed organization.
