HVAC Building Controls Application Engineer Location:
Rocky Hill, CT Salary Range:
$80,000 - $130,000 + Bonus (Higher if needed)
Position Type:
Direct Hire / Full-Time Position Overview We are in search of a skilled HVAC Building Controls Application Engineer who can assist in the design, programming, configuration, commissioning, and resolution of issues related to commercial building automation and HVAC control systems. This role requires developing comprehensive building control solutions in alignment with project needs, covering control system design, sequences of operation, controller programming, network architecture, electrical schematics, equipment selection, and system commissioning. The Application Engineer will collaborate with field technicians, project teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure accurate and efficient implementation of building automation systems as per project specifications. This is a great opportunity for an experienced BAS/Controls Engineer or a proficient HVAC Controls Technician/Programmer looking to progress into engineering and system design. Key Responsibilities Design and set up commercial HVAC building automation and control systems as per project requirements and contract documents. Generate control drawings, flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics . Create, configure, and test the software/programming necessary for the operation of building control systems based on project specifications. Coordinate the preparation of drawings, equipment schedules, submittals, and installation documentation. Make controls equipment and materials selections and manage deliveries to align with project schedules. Manage requirements for factory-mounted controls and equipment. Support in loading, programming, and commissioning system-level and network-level controllers . Conduct functional validation of complete
BAS/HVAC
control systems. Troubleshoot controls, communications, programming, installation, and system-operation issues. Work with field technicians, subcontractors, and other trades to address system issues and ensure smooth operation. Offer field-change information necessary for the creation of precise as-built drawings and final software documentation . Attend project release and turnover meetings with field teams. Coordinate with project leadership to define engineering and field-execution responsibilities. Monitor project progress and communicate status, technical issues, and schedule concerns to relevant project stakeholders. Provide technical guidance and assign work as needed to design assistants and other project resources. Prioritize employee, subcontractor, and jobsite safety. Travel to customer/project sites locally and occasionally beyond as needed. Required Qualifications Associate degree in a relevant technical discipline plus 2+ years of related experience , OR equivalent practical industry experience without a degree as a commercial HVAC Controls Technician, Controls Engineer, BAS Programmer, or Controls Installer . Solid understanding of the commercial HVAC sector. Knowledge of control theory and automatic temperature controls (ATC) . Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) from design, installation, programming, and/or commissioning viewpoints. Familiarity with commercial HVAC equipment and building control sequences. Exposure to low-voltage building systems and controls wiring . Ability to interpret and create technical drawings, schematics, sequences, and system documentation. Proficient in computers and software applications. Capable of addressing technical system issues and collaborating effectively with field personnel. Skilled in communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Willingness to travel to project locations as required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline with 3+ years of relevant controls experience , OR Associate degree in a related technical field with 5+ years of relevant experience , OR Equivalent industry experience as a commercial HVAC Controls Technician, Engineer, Programmer, or Installer. Extensive proficiency with commercial
BAS/HVAC
controls design, programming, installation, and commissioning . Experience in managing intricate building automation projects involving multiple controllers, networks, equipment types, and building subsystems.
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$80,000 - $110,000 , subject to experience, education, technical background, and overall qualifications. Exceptional candidates with notable

controls experience may receive consideration above standard compensation.
