#LI-MP2 How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities) The Maintenance Programs Engineer is responsible for the continuous improvement and optimization of Delta's Approved Maintenance Program through data-driven analysis of maintenance task effectiveness, fleet reliability, operational performance, and maintenance burden. This role partners closely with Fleet Engineering, Reliability, Line Maintenance, Base Maintenance, Planning, Supply Chain, and OEM partners to identify opportunities to improve maintenance program efficiency while maintaining full regulatory compliance and operational safety. The engineer evaluates maintenance task performance using operational and maintenance data, develops recommendations for escalation or de-escalation of maintenance requirements, and supports implementation of program changes that improve fleet availability, reliability, and cost effectiveness. This position serves as a key technical resource for maintenance program optimization initiatives across Delta's fleet and supports the development of analytical tools, dashboards, and performance metrics that drive strategic maintenance decisions.The successful candidate will:
Improve maintenance task effectiveness across assigned fleets. Reduce unnecessary maintenance burden through data-driven optimization. Increase aircraft availability and dispatch reliability. Develop meaningful fleet health and program performance metrics. Provide substantiated recommendations supporting maintenance interval changes. Deliver measurable cost avoidance and efficiency improvements while maintaining safety and compliance.Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance Program Optimization Analyze maintenance task effectiveness and identify opportunities to optimize task content, intervals, frequencies, and scheduling requirements. Investigate trends across ATA chapters and aircraft fleets to identify opportunities for program improvements. Evaluate maintenance program performance using reliability, operational interruption, deferred maintenance, and unscheduled maintenance data. Support development and implementation of maintenance program changes through Delta's regulatory approval and Reliability Control Board processes. Perform substantiation analyses for task escalations, de-escalations, additions, or removals based on fleet performance and statistical evidence. Develop recommendations that improve aircraft availability while reducing unnecessary maintenance workload. Ensure optimization initiatives maintain compliance with FAA regulations, OEM requirements, and Delta Technical Operations policies. Review, evaluate, and disposition Airworthiness Limitations (ALS), Airworthiness Limitation Instructions (ALI), and Airworthiness Limitations (AWL) revisions; assess operational and maintenance program impacts, develop compliance strategies, and coordinate implementation of required maintenance program changes across affected fleets. 2. Data Analytics & Reporting Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical tools supporting fleet optimization decisions. Utilize maintenance, reliability, operational, and component performance data to measure program effectiveness. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance program performance and optimization initiatives. Support predictive and proactive maintenance strategies through data analysis and fleet health monitoring. Present analytical findings and recommendations to Maintenance Programs leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. 3. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Fleet Engineering, Reliability Programs, Planning, Production Control, Supply Chain, Aircraft Inspection, and Maintenance organizations. Support implementation of engineering and maintenance program changes through effective coordination across departments. Collaborate with OEMs and industry working groups to evaluate best practices and benchmark maintenance program performance. Engage with maintenance personnel and operational stakeholders to ensure program changes are practical and effective. 4. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance burden while improving safety, operational reliability, and cost efficiency. Support development of internal analytical methodologies and optimization tools. Drive innovation in maintenance program management through advanced analytics and data visualization. Promote safety-conscious behaviors and operational excellence in all activities. What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications) Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related discipline). Minimum 3-5 years of airline, OEM, MRO, fleet engineering, reliability engineering, or maintenance programs experience. Knowledge of aircraft maintenance programs, MSG-3 principles, reliability programs, and regulatory requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large data sets and develop actionable recommendations. Experience with maintenance and reliability systems and operational data analysis. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel and Power BI or similar visualization tools. Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
