HVAC Controls Sales EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Sales Engineer to drive technical sales for building automation and HVAC control solutions. This role combines technical expertise in HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS) with strong customer-facing sales skills. The Sales Engineer will partner with customers, design teams, and internal teams to specify control solutions, develop proposals, and close projects that improve building performance, efficiency, and occupant comfort.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain relationships with MEP engineers, consulting firms, contractors, facility managers, and building owners to generate new business and expand existing accounts.
Qualify leads and manage a sales pipeline for HVAC controls and BAS projects from initial contact through proposal, negotiation, and contract award.
Provide technical guidance and product selection support for HVAC control systems, sensors, actuators, controllers, and integration with Building Automation Systems.
Prepare and present technical proposals, system architectures, point lists, and return-on-investment analyses to customers and stakeholders.
Collaborate with engineering, project management, and commissioning teams to ensure accurate system design, costing, and successful project delivery.
Conduct site visits, system assessments, and specification reviews to recommend upgrades, energy-saving strategies, and controls retrofits.
Stay current on industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies in HVAC controls, BAS, IoT, and energy management.
Support marketing and product management with application feedback, case studies, and competitive intelligence to inform product development and positioning.
Participate in trade shows, seminars, and client meetings to promote solutions and demonstrate technical capabilities.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Systems, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.3+ years of technical sales or sales engineering experience in HVAC controls, building automation systems (BAS), or related controls industry.
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, controls strategies, DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and/or Niagara.
Proven ability to develop and present technical proposals, equipment specifications, and return-on-investment analyses to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
Experience with system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems preferred.
Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects and sales opportunities concurrently.
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to customer sites and project locations as required.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified HVAC Professional, NATE, BTL Certified, Niagara Certification) are a plus.
