Job Description

VDC Manager - Mechanical & PlumbingPosition OverviewA leading mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced VDC Manager focused on Mechanical and Plumbing systems to lead model-based delivery across design, prefabrication, and construction phases. The ideal candidate will drive BIM/VDC strategy for MEP trades, manage coordination and clash detection, standardize workflows, and ensure high-quality Revit models that align with project schedules and field requirements. This role requires strong technical expertise in plumbing and mechanical systems, proven leadership in VDC/BIM execution, and the ability to collaborate effectively with design teams, contractors, and field operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement VDC/BIM standards, templates, and best practices for mechanical and plumbing models to ensure consistency across projects.

Lead model coordination sessions and manage clash detection and resolution between MEP, structural, and architectural disciplines using Navisworks or equivalent tools.

Produce, review, and maintain detailed Revit models for mechanical and plumbing systems, ensuring constructability and compliance with project requirements.

Coordinate with design engineers, contractors, and prefabrication teams to translate design intent into buildable models and shop drawings.

Supervise and mentor VDC/BIM modelers and technicians, assign workloads, and review deliverables for quality and accuracy.

Collaborate with field teams to provide model-based installation support, fabrication coordination, and on-site issue resolution.

Support preconstruction and estimating activities by providing model-based quantities, constructability reviews, and risk identification.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or related field preferred; or equivalent professional experience.7+ years of experience in VDC/BIM with a strong focus on mechanical and plumbing systems; 3+ years in a supervisory or lead role preferred.

Advanced proficiency in Revit for MEP modeling and family creation, including parameter management and template development.

Experience with coordination and clash detection tools such as Navisworks Manage, BIM 360 Glue, or Solibri.

Deep practical knowledge of plumbing systems, mechanical HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and construction methods to ensure model constructability.

Familiarity with prefabrication workflows, fabrication modeling, and shop drawing production.

Strong understanding of LOD (Level of Development) requirements, model deliverables, and industry BIM standards (e.g., ISO 19650, AIA BIM guidelines).Proficiency with additional tools such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Dynamo, Revit add-ins, and common project management platforms is desirable.
