A Facilities Engineer supports engineering activities surrounding planning, design, and maintenance in a number of indoor environments; including manufacturing facilities, power stations, hospitals, and offices.
DoubleTree by Hilton Fairfield Hotel & Suites - Fairfield, New Jersey DoubleTree by Hilton Fairfield Hotel & Suites is seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Assistant Chief Engineer to support the daily operations of our Engineering Department. This position assists the Area Director of Engineering with maintaining the hotel's physical condition, coordinating preventive maintenance, supervising repairs and projects, and ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for our guests and team members. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and previous engineering or maintenance experience in a full-service hotel. The Assistant Chief Engineer must be able to lead the department and oversee Engineering operations in the Area Director of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Area Director of Engineering with supervising, training, scheduling, and supporting the Engineering team. Help oversee the daily maintenance and repair of guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, kitchen equipment, pool facilities, and back-of-house areas. Assume responsibility for the Engineering Department when the Area Director of Engineering is unavailable. Support and carry out the hotel's preventive-maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas, and equipment. Monitor and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire-life-safety, and building-control systems. Respond promptly to guest-room maintenance requests, operational concerns, and emergencies. Conduct routine property inspections and follow up to ensure identified deficiencies are corrected. Assign daily work orders and monitor their timely and proper completion. Assist with supervising outside vendors, contractors, inspections, and improvement projects. Help obtain proposals, track project costs, and control departmental expenses. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, warranties, permits, and service agreements. Help ensure compliance with Hilton brand standards and all applicable federal, state, and local safety and building requirements. Maintain the hotel's pool systems and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Monitor Engineering inventory and assist with ordering tools, equipment, replacement parts, and maintenance supplies. Support the hotel's energy-conservation and cost-control initiatives. Coordinate closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food and Beverage, and other departments to minimize service interruptions. Participate in emergency-response procedures and remain available for urgent maintenance matters when required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Engineering shop and work environment. Perform hands-on repairs and other duties assigned by the Chief Engineer or General Manager.
Qualifications:
Minimum of two to four years of hotel engineering, building maintenance, or facilities-management experience. Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred. Full-service hotel experience is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, boilers, commercial kitchen equipment, and fire-life-safety systems. Ability to diagnose problems, prioritize assignments, and complete repairs efficiently. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards. Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain digital maintenance records and reports. Relevant trade licenses, certifications, or technical training are preferred. Pool operator certification is preferred or must be obtained after employment. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency on-call coverage when necessary. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in confined or elevated spaces. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely use ladders, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Ability to work indoors and outdoors under varying environmental conditions.
