Job Title:
Maintenance Engineer (1st Shift) Job Description This role supports a leading contract packaging and decoration provider serving food, beverage, cosmetic, and candleware brands. As a 1st shift Maintenance Engineer, you will perform multi-craft industrial maintenance on production equipment, ensuring reliable operation of product lines, ovens, and related machinery. You will apply strong electrical and mechanical skills to troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, and support continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on production lines, machinery, ovens, and related equipment. Conduct detailed root-cause analysis on issues involving PLCs, sensors, cameras, machine control wiring, motors, and variable frequency drives, and document findings in maintenance reports. Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to identify and resolve recurring equipment problems and drive sustainable solutions. Observe equipment in operation, listen for abnormal sounds, and use measuring and testing instruments to locate sources of problems as part of condition-based maintenance. Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns and unplanned downtime, replacing, adjusting, and repairing parts as needed using manual tools, power tools, and support equipment. Interpret and analyze equipment manuals, blueprints, schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and mechanical drawings to determine appropriate troubleshooting and repair procedures. Perform mechanical repairs involving pneumatics, hydraulics, preventative maintenance, machine setups, and equipment installations. Support rigging, piping, and machine building or installation activities as needed to install or relocate equipment safely and effectively. Ensure all work complies with safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout practices, and promote a safe and clean working environment. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, findings, and corrective actions to support continuous improvement and equipment reliability. Participate in and support a strong preventative maintenance culture by completing scheduled inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and uptime. Essential Skills At least 5 years of industrial manufacturing maintenance experience in a production environment. At least 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience, including pneumatics, hydraulics, preventative maintenance, machine setups, and equipment installation. At least 5 years of electrical troubleshooting experience with 480V, 3-phase power systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings. Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and related control systems. Ability to diagnose and repair issues involving sensors, cameras, machine control wiring, motors, and variable frequency drives. Strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical systems within an industrial setting. Ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks or a strong mechanical aptitude to develop these skills. Capability to analyze and interpret equipment manuals, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and technical documentation. Commitment to following safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, and maintaining a safe working environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Screen print labeling or related packaging and decoration equipment experience. Welding and fabrication experience for maintenance repairs and small projects. CNC maintenance experience, including troubleshooting and repairing CNC machinery. Experience with robotics and PLC programming, including programming, modifying, and troubleshooting PLC logic. Knowledge of AC and DC motors, including troubleshooting and maintenance. Experience with piping and rigging for equipment installation, relocation, or modification. Machine building and installation experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills to work effectively with maintenance, operations, and other cross-functional teams. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple maintenance tasks and priorities. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a clean industrial manufacturing facility with operations spread across three buildings. Certain areas are non-climate controlled, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures typical of industrial environments. You will work on 1st shift in a production setting that uses standard industrial technologies and equipment, including PLC-controlled machinery, ovens, product lines, and related support systems. Standard personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and the facility maintains a clean, organized environment with a strong emphasis on safety and preventative maintenance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lancaster, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
