At BSI Engineering, our Mechanical Designers are an important part of the engineering team, working alongside engineers and other design disciplines to turn complex project requirements into practical, constructible designs. In this role, you'll work on HVAC, plumbing, utility piping, and other mechanical building systems for industrial clients across industries including specialty and renewable chemicals, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, consumer products, and aviation. This isn't a role where you'll spend every day simply redlining drawings. You'll have the opportunity to visit project sites, gather field information, develop detailed 3D Revit models, coordinate across engineering disciplines, interact with clients, and take ownership of design deliverables. For an experienced Mechanical Designer who enjoys solving real-world design challenges and seeing how their work comes together in the field, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. BSI Engineering operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees working from the office a minimum of three days per week. This role is based in our Oak Brook, Illinois office .
Responsibilities:
As a Mechanical Designer, you'll work closely with Mechanical Engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to develop coordinated designs from field investigation through project deliverables. Develop detailed 3D Revit models for mechanical equipment, ductwork, plumbing, and utility piping systems. Create and coordinate HVAC, plumbing, piping, and building utility plans, sections, details, and equipment layouts . Participate in site visits, field walkdowns, and site audits to gather existing-condition information and translate field conditions into accurate designs. Prepare 2D drawings and other technical deliverables in accordance with project, client, and industry standards. Work from site scans and existing conditions to develop coordinated models and designs. Assist with PFDs, P&IDs, Airflow & Instrumentation Diagrams (AF&IDs), general arrangement drawings, equipment schedules, and mechanical lists . Coordinate designs with structural, electrical, process, architectural, and other engineering disciplines. Identify and resolve design conflicts before drawings and models are issued. Work directly with engineers, project managers, clients, and other designers to move projects forward. Participate in multidisciplinary design and quality reviews. Support quantity and material takeoffs for project cost estimating. Manage assigned design work to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations. Take ownership of smaller design efforts while continuing to grow your technical and project leadership capabilities. Experience Required We're looking for someone who understands that great mechanical design goes beyond knowing the software. You can visualize how systems fit together, recognize field and constructability issues, and work collaboratively with engineers and other disciplines to develop a coordinated solution.
Minimum qualifications:
5+ years of experience in mechanical design, MEP design, industrial design, or engineering consulting . Strong experience developing 3D mechanical models in Autodesk Revit . Experience designing HVAC systems and utility piping , ideally for industrial or manufacturing facilities.
