POSITION OVERVIEW
The Plumbing Engineer leads the design of plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems on healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and federal projects — from concept through construction administration. You'll set the technical direction on your projects, develop the people assisting you with the work, and be the engineer the client interacts with directly in design meetings and on site.
LOCATION
Pittsburgh, PA or Washington, DC with travel to client and project sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design plumbing systems including water, sanitary, storm, diesel distribution, natural gas distribution, medical gas, and specialty lab gas systems Run construction administration — submittal and shop drawing review, RFI responses, site observation, punch, and closeout. Design projects and supervise junior staff design efforts Coordinate with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables Conduct field verification of existing systems, space, and clearances Develop and monitor plumbing work plans with project managers Perform and maintain thorough QA/QC on all phases of projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's or master's degree in architectural engineering or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited university Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) 7+ years designing plumbing systems for commercial or institutional buildings. Strong training and mentoring capabilities Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically
IPC, UPC, CPC, ASPE
standards, LEED water efficiency, and NFPA Thorough working knowledge of relevant engineering software: REVIT, CAD, load calculation software, Excel The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills
