Essential Duties:
 
Transportation Engineer I:
  • Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
  • Assists in evaluating pavement products and pavement condition data.
  • Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
  • Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
  • Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
  • Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
  • Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
  • Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.
  • Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
  • Provides assistance in preparing reports on pavement condition
  • Performs other duties as assigned Transportation Engineer II, all the above, and:
  • Evaluates pavement products and pavement condition data.
  • Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
  • Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.
  • Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
  • Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting Transportation Engineer III all the above, and:
  • Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
  • Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
  • Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
  • Provides assistance in preparing reports on pavement conditions.
  • Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.
  • Reviews, coordinates and monitors routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.
  • Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
