Engineering Technician (Day & Night Shift)

  • 2 Day Shift (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM)
  • 2 Night Shift (2‑2‑3 rotating schedule) Position Overview The Engineering Technician (ET) serves as the technical bridge between Maintenance Mechanics and Engineering, providing hands‑on troubleshooting, mentoring, and reliability support for automated pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment.
This role is first‑level escalation for complex mechanical and electromechanical issues and provides additional engineering coverage on shift. Engineering Technicians are expected to be mechanically strong, comfortable interacting with controls systems, and capable of teaching and coaching others. Success in this role requires attention to detail, a precision maintenance mindset, and a strong sense of ownership for equipment reliability and safety. This position supports packaging and assembly equipment including UV curing systems, vision systems, laser marking stations, conveyors, robotics, and other automated manufacturing assets. The site includes a dedicated workshop environment to practice and refine troubleshooting and maintenance techniques. Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe work environment and actively support all site and corporate HSE goals
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on automated manufacturing equipment
  • Serve as first escalation point for Maintenance Mechanics during equipment issues
  • Diagnose and address common failure modes, including: Bearing failures and Servo motor failures
  • Teach, coach, and mentor maintenance personnel on failure modes, precision maintenance practices, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Interact with PLCs for basic diagnostics, including reviewing ladder logic and simple trend data
  • Initiate and manage work orders to support troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Escalate issues appropriately to supervision, operations, and engineering following the site escalation model
  • Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with cGMPs and site procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and quality using performance data
  • Monitor key equipment signals and measurements to support preventative maintenance effectiveness
  • Ensure job plans are accurate and remove inefficiencies where identified
  • Maintain and update CMMS data (GMARS preferred) including assets, locations, and spare parts
  • Develop and maintain spare parts lists based on historical usage, lead times, and business risk
  • Support the introduction of new equipment and assets
  • Develop setup, troubleshooting, and run‑time guides to improve operational consistency
  • Transfer equipment knowledge and best practices to operators, maintenance, and engineering teams Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong mechanical background with experience in automated or electromechanical equipment
  • Hands‑on experience troubleshooting automated machinery in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with PLCs from a diagnostic standpoint (viewing ladder logic, basic trends, signal checks)
  • Experience working safely around live equipment, including LOTO and safe troubleshooting practices
  • Ability to follow written procedures and work in a regulated environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to precision maintenance
  • Strong work ethic, curiosity, and desire to continuously learn
  • Comfortable teaching and mentoring others in a high‑turnover environment
  • Ability to work as the "middle ground" between mechanics and engineers Preferred Qualifications
  • Journeyman trade background or equivalent hands‑on experience
  • Experience in FDA‑regulated manufacturing (pharmaceutical preferred)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • CMMS experience (GMARS or Maximo preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated customer‑service mindset and strong communication skills
  • Experience supporting engineering activities and continuous improvement efforts Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
