Full Job Description SUMMARY:
We currently have a contract to possible hire opportunity for an Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician's primary focus will be the de-processing and imaging/measurement of mobile phone RF front end modules. This will primarily involve soldering or de-processing small components and IC die under a microscope, using a polishing wheel, and acids under a fume hood. The candidate should have an academic understanding of electronic module assembly, basic electronics and some familiarity with solid-state integrated circuits. The position pays in the range of $25.00 to $42.00 per hour, depending upon a candidate's skills and experience. This is a full-time position working 100% on-site and hands-on in a laboratory environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
This role will involve soldering, dismantling or de-processing samples in the range of 10x10 mm to 0.25 mm square, sometimes with precision in the order of microns.

  • Basic electronics knowledge and familiarity with highly integrated electronic module assembly
  • Hand soldering modules using a microscope, tweezers, soldering irons, or hot air reflow stations
  • Imaging using an imaging microscope
  • Measuring using an imaging microscope and other software tools
  • Extracting and handling microscopic (down to ~0.25mm square) die with tweezers
  • Some familiarity with CNC milling Additional desired experience (will train):
  • Chemical decapsulation, working under a fume hood wearing PPE (gloves, frock, eyewear): Fuming nitric acid, fuming sulfuric acid, gold etchant, isopropyl alcohol, and acetone
  • Cross-sectioning and de-layering using polishing wheels with abrasive films
  • Precision polishing of Si die, GaAs die, and organic or ceramic substrates
  • Sample preparation for testing (modifying modules without impacting electrical performance)
  • Ability to interpret X-Ray and Scanning Electron Microscope data
  • Familiarity with mobile cellular radio front ends
  • Experienced with RF probe stations, Network Analyzers, and S-Parameter data EDUCATION and
EXPERIENCE
  • HS, 2 yr Technical School, Military and/or equivalent experience and training
  • Entry level up to 2 years' experience in an engineering lab environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process, image and analyze modules and sub-components using the above techniques
  • Prepare samples for scanning electron microscopes and X-Ray equipment
  • Strictly follow administrative processes and data entry for material and job tracking
  • Prepare and present summary reports created from the data collected in the lab
  • Follow safe laboratory procedures
  • Maintain adequate levels of consumables through monthly monitoring/reporting
  • Interact with internal customers at every level of the organization (top executives, engineers, technical and non-technical managers, and other technicians).
