Job Description

Job Title:
Cathodic Protection Technician (CP1 Required)
Job Overview:
Patriot Pipeline Services is seeking an experienced Cathodic Protection Technician to perform critical tasks in maintaining and ensuring the effectiveness of cathodic protection (CP) systems for pipelines and infrastructure. This position requires AMPP Cathodic Protection Technician Level 1 (CP1) certification, and the ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in CP system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Services & Maintenance:
Install and maintain Remote Monitoring Units (RMUs), test stations, rectifiers, and other cathodic protection equipment. Conduct routine CP system inspections and perform annual test point surveys to assess system integrity and performance. Troubleshoot and repair cathodic protection systems, including anode bed and rectifier maintenance. Perform valve maintenance and ensure proper operation of CP-related equipment.
Surveying & Reporting:
Conduct field surveys such as Close Interval Surveys (CIS), gas leakage, and pipe to soil potential measurements to identify areas of potential corrosion. Analyze and interpret survey data to determine system performance and necessary adjustments. Prepare detailed reports of survey results and field activities, identifying any areas that need corrective action.
System Testing & Data Collection:
Test and evaluate rectifier outputs, current magnitude/polarity, and system performance using a variety of testing devices and tools. Monitor system performance data to ensure compliance with industry standards and company specifications.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure all cathodic protection installations and maintenance are compliant with AMPP, NACE, and other applicable industry standards. Work closely with engineers and field managers to ensure projects meet technical specifications and are completed on schedule. Safety & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Safety Focused Work Environment:
Patriot Pipeline Services emphasizes the importance of safety in all fieldwork. The Cathodic Protection Technician will strictly follow all safety procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for both themselves and their team. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Required PPE includes, but not limited to, hard hats, safety glasses, flame-resistant clothing, steel-toe boots, and high-visibility clothing. Use appropriate PPE based on specific tasks, including gloves, hearing protection, and respiratory protection if necessary. Participate in regular safety briefings, tool talks, and updated training to stay current on safety protocols and best practices.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
High school diploma or GED required. AMPP Cathodic Protection Technician Level 1 (CP1) certification required. Additional
NACE/AMPP
certifications (such as CP2) are a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in cathodic protection or related fieldwork. Proven experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems.
Skills:
Strong understanding of CP system components, including rectifiers, anodes, and test stations. Proficiency in using CP testing equipment such as multimeters, voltmeters, data loggers, and other specialized tools. Ability to interpret field data and produce clear, actionable reports. Capable of working independently and as part of a team in field conditions, including remote locations.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel as required. Why Join Patriot Pipeline Services?
