Job Description

Piper Companies is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join a cutting-edge hardware technology organization in a highly visible, hands-on role. The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for driving complex system-level hardware designs from concept through production, working onsite five days per week in Saratoga, California. This role is ideal for a senior-level engineer who thrives in high‑performance environments and has a strong track record of shipping hardware products. Responsibilities of the
Hardware Engineer:
  • Design, develop, and deliver system-level hardware solutions for server, computer, or networking platforms
  • Own hardware design from early architecture and prototyping through validation and full production release
  • Work extensively with optical interfaces such as SFP+ and QSFP+
  • Design and debug high-speed interfaces including Ethernet, SerDes, and PCIe
  • Ensure signal integrity and power integrity across complex, high‑speed systems
  • Utilize common control and debug interfaces including MDIO, SPI, I2C, and JTAG
  • Collaborate with FPGA, mechanical, thermal, and power teams to deliver robust, manufacturable designs
  • Support bring-up, debug, validation, and root-cause analysis of hardware issues Qualifications of the
Hardware Engineer:
  • 10+ years of system-level hardware development experience (server, computer, or networking preferred)
  • Strong expertise in high-speed technologies, signal integrity, and power integrity
  • Hands-on experience with optical interfaces such as SFP+ and QSFP+
  • Working knowledge of FPGA design, power systems, clocking, and mechanical/thermal considerations
  • Deep understanding of hardware development processes and best practices
  • Proven history of delivering and shipping production hardware
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (Master's preferred) Compensation for the Hardware Engineer includes:
  • Salary range: $210,000 - $260,000 depending on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO
