Job Description

Cadence is seeking a Principal Application Engineer to support enterprise customers across Canada, with a focus on the Allegro X PCB design platform. This is a customer-facing presales role for a technical professional who enjoys building long-term relationships, influencing technical decisions, and helping customers succeed with complex PCB design challenges.

This role supports a geographically focused customer base, heavily weighted toward telecom and advanced electronics, including both established enterprises and fast-growing startups, and is well suited for experienced PCB engineers or layout designers seeking a broader customer-facing role or experienced EDA application engineers. What you'll do:

Serve as a trusted technical advisor to multiple key customers across Canada, building strong, long-term relationshipsDefine and execute enterprise presales engagements with a high degree of autonomy, including technical discovery, solution positioning, technical presentations and product demonstrations, and customer enablement through evaluation and adoptionProvide high-touch support, education, and technical consultationPartner closely with Sales to influence account strategy, design wins, expansions, and technology adoptionCollaborate with R D and Product teams to champion customer needs and influence the product roadmapStay current on...Emerging PCB design and manufacturing technologiesCadence product advancementsCompetitive solutions, and what differentiates CadenceShare knowledge with other application engineers and contribute to team-wide technical expertise through mentorship and leading technical initiatives
What Success Looks Like:
Key stakeholders, including senior engineers and engineering management, view you as a trusted technical advisor and long-term partner within their organizationsYou own end-to-end technical execution of customer engagements involving Allegro X, defining strategy in close partnership with the account teamYou achieve measurable business impact on customer acquisition, satisfaction, retention, and expansion
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience8+ years of experience in PCB design, layout, or relevant adjacenciesExpert understanding of schematic capture and PCB design workflowsExcellent English-language written and verbal communication skillsAbility to present and clearly articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of, or direct experience in the EDA industry Strong background in one or more of:

PCB layout or manufacturingSignal Integrity, Power Integrity, and high-speed designElectromagnetics or RF, as related to PCB designHands-on experience with Cadence Allegro platform tools (Allegro PCB Editor, System Capture, Design Entry HDL)Strong professional network within the Ottawa or Toronto engineering communitiesWhat you'll gain:
