ADAS Hardware Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a Senior ADAS Hardware Design Engineer to support the development and integration of next-generation autonomous vehicle technologies. This role sits at the intersection of embedded systems, mechanical hardware design, and vehicle-level integration, with a strong emphasis on bridging software functionality to physical vehicle hardware. The ideal candidate will have deep experience designing and integrating ADAS hardware systems, using SolidWorks for packaging and system layout, while collaborating closely with software, systems, and validation teams. Responsibilities Design and develop hardware systems and enclosures supporting ADAS technologies such as cameras, radar, LiDAR, compute platforms, and ECUs. Utilize SolidWorks to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production-ready drawings for embedded automotive hardware. Translate system-level and software requirements into physical hardware designs and integration strategies. Drive vehicle-level integration, ensuring seamless interaction between hardware components and embedded software systems. Collaborate cross-functionally with software, systems, electrical, and validation teams to ensure end-to-end functionality. Support prototype builds, test vehicle integration, and debugging activities. Participate in design reviews, including DFMEA, DFM, and reliability assessments. Optimize designs for thermal performance, vibration, packaging constraints, and manufacturability. Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to support component sourcing, production readiness, and issue resolution. Ensure designs meet automotive standards for safety, durability, and environmental performance. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or related field. 6+ years of experience in automotive hardware design, preferably within ADAS or autonomous vehicle systems. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, GD&T, and drawing release. Experience designing and integrating embedded hardware systems including ECUs, sensors, and compute modules. Working knowledge of vehicle electrical and system architectures such as CAN, Ethernet, and power distribution. Hands-on experience with prototype development, testing, and validation in automotive environments. Proven ability to translate requirements into robust hardware designs. Experience participating in design reviews, DFMEA, and system validation processes. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a cross-functional engineering environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Direct experience with ADAS or autonomous vehicle platforms. Familiarity with sensor integration including camera, radar, and LiDAR. Exposure to functional safety standards such as ISO. Experience with thermal and structural analysis tools. Understanding of PCB design and embedded electronics integration. Background working with OEMs or Tier 1 automotive suppliers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.
