1st Overview Bath Iron Works is seeking a Safety Engineer to join our Safety & Health department. In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline in a very dynamic, fast paced shipyard industry.
Key Responsibilities Safety Leadership:
Identifying workplace hazards and feasible means of abatement Participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections Developing fall protection plans
Project Execution:
Assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems
Training and Development:
Provide training as necessary to ensure total safety culture is attainable
Team Collaboration and Communication:
Assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards Providing direction and technical support on compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures
Continuous Improvement:
Conduct root cause accident and incident investigations as well as developing subsequent corrective action(s) Reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs Responsibilities Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Specific demonstrated experience in work place health and safety programs/oversight may be substituted for educational requirements. Qualifications Safety/Health Engineer
II - 2-4
years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs. Safety/Health Engineer III - 5+ years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs. Experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard preferred. Specific experience in lifting and handling, rigging, fall protection, confined space entry, industrial hygiene and / or ergonomics preferred. Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA and/or industry standards preferred. Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights (required). Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Access required. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to successfully multi-task and to plan and coordinate time dependent activities required. Good organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, team building, and decision-making abilities required. Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities required. Ability to establish effective relationships with personnel in all areas and levels of the company required.
