Full Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking a Safety Engineer to join our manufacturing team. The safety engineer will play a key role in developing, implementing, and overseeing safety procedures and programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. The position requires a proactive professional who is skilled in hazard identification, risk assessment, and employee training to maintain a culture of safety and reduce workplace incidents.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Key Qualifications Equipment and controls:
Working knowledge of PLCs, machine controls, interlocks, guarding, light curtains, and emergency stops, with the ability to identify control-related hazards.
Manufacturing safety:
Five or more years of progressive EHS experience, preferably involving automated equipment, stamping, machining, fabrication, or powder coating.
Technical compliance:
Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, PPE, hazardous materials, and environmental compliance.
Safety leadership:
Ability to lead audits, investigations, risk assessments, corrective actions, training, and accountability efforts.
Communication:
Effective with employees, leadership, regulators, and auditors. Bilingual English/Spanish is highly desirable.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and continuously improve safety protocols, guidelines, and procedures that align with industry standards and government regulations. Conduct regular safety audits, hazard assessments, and root-cause analyses to identify potential risks and ensure that corrective action is taken. Lead investigations into accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents. Compile reports, determine causes, and work with leadership to implement corrective actions. Develop and deliver safety training for employees, contractors, and new hires to promote safe work practices. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. Keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry standards. Actively seek and propose new methods or technologies to enhance workplace safety and efficiency.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent communication and training skills, with the ability to effectively convey safety information. Proficiency in risk assessment techniques, safety auditing, and accident investigation. Analytical skills to assess safety and implement improvement strategies Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. General understanding of PLC and other equipment controls for modern manufacturing Ability to balance expectations of compliance with operations
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational safety, or related working experience. OHSA-30 certified. Experience with Lockout/Tagout Experience with ergonomic lifting Experience with repetitive motion fatigue with mitigation Experience with PIV Training Experience with continuous improvement
Physical Requirements:
Uncontrolled environmental conditions: noise, dust, dirt, mobile equipment, and walking surfaces strewn with materials; power cords and tools are typical. Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs., Any combination of standing, bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling and walking 8 to 10 hours per day. Ability to work up to 8-10-hour shifts and overtime as required by the work. Use of all limbs, dexterous, and steady use of hands and arms for long periods of time.
