Job Description

Allied Fire Protection seeks a Fire Protection Engineer to design and support fire sprinkler, alarm, and suppression systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Based in San Antonio, TX, you will prepare hydraulic calculations, layouts, and code-compliant drawings, collaborating closely with project managers and field teams. You will support installation, inspections, and AHJ approvals while promoting a safety-first, team-focused culture. This role offers hands-on field exposure, technical training, and clear paths to advance into senior design or leadership positions. Responsibilities Design fire protection and life safety systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects Prepare hydraulic calculations, system layouts, and code-compliant drawings Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with NFPA, IBC, IFC, and local codes Coordinate with project managers, field teams, and clients to integrate designs into construction schedules Support installation, inspection, and testing of fire sprinkler, alarm, and suppression systems Troubleshoot design issues and provide engineered solutions during construction Perform site visits and surveys to assess existing conditions and verify as-built information Document design decisions, calculations, and submittals for permitting and AHJ review Assist with value engineering while maintaining safety and code compliance Mentor junior designers and support continuous improvement of design standards Required Skills Fire protection system design Hydraulic calculations Auto CAD or Revit NFPA codes and standards IBC/IFC code compliance Fire alarm and detection systems Fire sprinkler system layout Technical drafting and plan review Construction documentation Field coordination and site surveys
