Job Description
Industrial Engineer Manufacturing Engineering Tooling & Fixtures Mechanical Design Continuous Improvement Position Overview We are looking for a resourceful and inventive Industrial Engineer who combines rigorous process engineering with genuine mechanical and industrial design capability. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of creative problem solving and disciplined manufacturing practice — translating ideas into manufacturable, cost-effective solutions from the drawing board to the shop floor. If you see engineering challenges as design opportunities and can back your instincts with solid analysis and clear documentation, we want to hear from you.
POSITION DETAILS
Department:
Manufacturing Engineering FLSA Status:
Exempt Employment Type:
Full-Time Work Location:
On-Site - Production FacilityKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manufacturing Process Engineering Analyze, design, and improve manufacturing processes for machined, fabricated, and welded components with a focus on quality, cost, and throughput. Develop work instructions, process sheets, routers, and time standards to support efficient shop floor execution. Support and actively contribute to shop scheduling activities, working alongside production supervisors to optimize workflow, capacity loading, and machine utilization. Perform time studies, capacity analysis, and process-flow mapping to identify and resolve production bottlenecks. Mechanical & Industrial Design Apply mechanical and industrial design skills to engineer custom tooling, fixtures, jigs, and work-holding devices that are both functionally robust and elegantly simple to use. Bring a designer's eye to process and product challenges — exploring multiple concepts, evaluating trade-offs, and converging solutions that balance performance, manufacturability, and cost. Create and maintain detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings for machined parts, weldments, fixtures, and assemblies, applying GD&T perASME Y14.5.
Update and revise engineering prints through ECO/ECR processes, maintaining accuracy and revision control within PDM/PLM systems. Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and related documentation within ERP (Sage X3) workflows. Welding & Fabrication Support Provide technical support to welding and fabrication teams, including weld symbol callouts, joint design, fit-up tolerance review, and fixture qualification. Design or specify fixturing solutions that simplify complex weld assemblies, reduce setup time, and improve repeatability. Coordinate fabrication, procurement, and qualification of new tooling and fixturing as required by production needs. Creative Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement Approach engineering challenges with curiosity and creativity — generating novel ideas, rapidly prototyping concepts, and iterating toward practical, shop-floor-ready solutions. Lead or actively contribute to DFM/DFA design reviews, kaizen events, root cause analysis, and cost-reduction initiatives targeting scrap, rework, and cycle time. Collaborate with product engineering during new product introduction (NPI) to surface and resolve manufacturability concerns early in the design cycle. Drive continuous improvement in tooling, fixturing, and process design by applying lean manufacturing principles including 5S, SMED, and value stream mapping. Quality & Compliance Support ISO- or AS9100-compliant quality management systems, including FMEA development, control plan creation, first article inspection (FAI), and corrective action participation. Ensure all engineering documentation meets applicable quality standards and internal change control procedures. Participate in internal and external audits as an engineering subject-matter expert.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's or bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline — or equivalent demonstrated experience. 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, job shop, or custom fabrication environment combining process engineering and hands-on technical work. Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks strongly preferred; AutoCAD or Inventor acceptable) and GD&T perASME Y14.5.
Demonstrated ability to create production-quality machining drawings, weldment drawings, and assembly drawings. Hands-on familiarity with welding processes (MIG, TIG, or structural) sufficient to author accurate weld drawings and support fit-up review. Practical experience designing or specifying tooling, fixtures, or jigs in a production environment. Working knowledge of PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, or Vault) for document and revision control. Familiarity with ERP-driven engineering workflows; experience with Sage X3 is a significant plus.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
★Strongly Preferred:
Mechanical / Industrial Design Capability The ideal candidate brings more than process engineering proficiency — they bring a designer's instinct. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate: A portfolio or examples of original mechanical or industrial design work — custom equipment, tooling systems, fixture concepts, or product designs that show creative thinking and engineering rigor. The ability to generate multiple design concepts quickly, evaluate trade-offs clearly, and communicate ideas visually through sketches, CAD, or rapid prototypes. Experience applying industrial design principles (ergonomics, human factors, form-function balance) to production tooling, work cells, or manufacturing equipment. A track record of creative problem solving: finding unexpected but elegant solutions to persistent manufacturing, tooling, or design challenges. Basic understanding of CNC programming concepts or CAM workflows (Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM, or similar); comfort collaborating with CNC programmers on toolpath and setup strategy. Exposure to ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems, including documentation practices and audit participation.Familiarity with lean manufacturing tools:
5S, kaizen, value stream mapping, SMED, and standard work. CSWA (Certified SolidWorks Associate) or equivalent CAD certification. Experience in precision contract manufacturing, aerospace, defense, heavy equipment, or oil & gas industries.SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
