Job Title:
Process Engineer - Final AssemblyJob Description The Process Engineer supports the final assembly area in an automotive manufacturing environment by driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity. This role works closely with technicians and production team members to measure body panels, analyze dimensional data, and adjust fixture tooling to ensure defect-free assemblies. The Process Engineer applies engineering principles and analytical techniques to develop, optimize, and standardize manufacturing processes, while supporting launch activities and maintaining compliance with internal and external standards. Responsibilities + Support all manufacturing process engineering activities within the final assembly area. + Work with technicians to measure body panels, interpret dimensional data, and identify process variation or quality issues. + Analyze dimensional data and collaborate with production team members to adjust fixture tooling and ensure assemblies are defect free. + Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity across assigned processes. + Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish, validate, and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products. + Develop action plans to investigate and prioritize quality concerns, and verify corrective actions on internal processes and supplier processes. + Plan and conduct process audits to ensure process discipline remains consistent with established guidelines and standards. + Conduct job ergonomic evaluations, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to improve operator safety and comfort. + Create and maintain process documentation and instruction sheets that support quality methods, standardized work, and consistent processes. + Act as a lead in resolving assembly-related issues, including variability reduction initiatives and implementation of lean manufacturing best practices. + Identify throughput constraints in the production process and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve flow and efficiency. + Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, and environmental standards in all assigned processes. + Support ISO compliance efforts, including participation in internal ISO audits and implementation of corrective actions as required. + Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and productivity throughout the manufacturing area. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, maintenance, and suppliers, to support launch activities and ongoing operations. Essential Skills + Experience in process engineering or manufacturing engineering within an automotive or similar high-volume manufacturing environment. + Demonstrated experience with process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives. + Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application on the shop floor. + Proficiency in data analysis, including the ability to interpret dimensional data and use it to drive process adjustments and improvements. + Strong skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and tracking process metrics. + Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and methods for variability reduction and root cause analysis. + Ability to conduct process audits and ergonomic evaluations and translate findings into practical corrective actions. + Capability to create clear, detailed process and instruction sheets that support standardized work and quality methods. + Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on root cause identification and sustainable corrective actions. + Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with technicians, production crews, and cross-functional teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. + Co-op or internship experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive. + Experience supporting new product or process launches in a production environment. + Exposure to ISO standards and participation in ISO auditing or compliance activities. + Background in automotive manufacturing, particularly in final assembly operations. + Hands-on experience implementing lean manufacturing tools such as 5S, standard work, and waste reduction initiatives. + Familiarity with ergonomic assessment tools and methodologies. + Ability to work flexible hours and support high-demand periods when production requires extended schedules. Work Environment This role operates in an automotive manufacturing environment within a unionized plant. The Process Engineer works on a crew-based shift schedule, with crews rotating to a new shift approximately every 10 weeks. Typical rotation patterns include combinations such as Monday-Thursday days, Monday-Thursday nights, and Friday/Saturday days with Sunday/Monday nights, following a four-day schedule of 10-hour shifts. Standard work hours range from approximately 40 to 45 hours per week, with the potential to increase up to about 60 hours during busy periods. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with close interaction on the shop floor alongside technicians and production teams, particularly during launch activities. Plant shutdowns typically occur around the Fourth of July and Christmas, and employees are encouraged to plan vacations during these periods. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $42.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
