Role Summary Production Engineer
MANN+HUMMEL
Location:
Gatonia, NC Position Summary The Production Engineer supports start-up activities and is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving production methods, equipment, tools, and fixtures for all parts in mass production. This role ensures production performance, process reliability, and ongoing operational efficiency while supporting quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Tasks Key Responsibilities Track performance of production equipment and processes Execute required adjustments to existing production equipment (upgrades/downgrades) based on changing requirements such as volume, legal, or technical updates Provide improvement solutions to Project Engineering for underperforming production equipment and support OEE improvement initiatives Maintain and update Production BOMs and routings Participate in start-of-production activities (Gate 4) Assume responsibility for start-of-production activities following Gate 6 Support internal performance testing and process approvals Maintain and update P-FMEA post-SOP in cooperation with the FMEA moderator Deliver technical training related to modified production equipment and processes Support production troubleshooting when quality, quantity, or timing targets are not achieved Actively participate in Lean workshops and continuous improvement initiatives Support both internal and external audits Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and company policies while maintaining safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplaces Ensure all relevant internal and external norms and standards (e.g., ISO / IATF) are applied Travel as required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a comparable technical discipline (or equivalent educational background) Minimum of 4 years of experience in a relevant manufacturing or production engineering environment Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools Strong written and verbal communication skills (English preferred)
Technical & Functional Competencies Required:
Familiarity with production and manufacturing processes such as: Pleating Plastic injection molding Plastic welding Assembly operations Knowledge of
IATF 16949, ISO
45001, and
ISO 14001
standards Application of Lean Manufacturing principles Manufacturing Engineering experience within automotive or related industries Experience supporting mass production environments Ability to apply and improve existing production methods
Preferred:
Familiarity with Total Quality Management (TQM) Knowledge of HSE requirements within production environments Experience applying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies
