What to Expect Tesla is looking for a motivated Supplier Industrial Engineer to assist in further validation of processes and standards related to Tesla's packaging procurement process. This individual will work with Tesla's packaging vendor base, packaging engineering team, GSM, and other stakeholders to establish standards, process documents, build quality and validation criteria, vendor onboarding tasks, among many other activities, to streamline the way Tesla packaging interacts with its vendors. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making.
The goal:
delivering on time quantities of high-quality reusable packaging products into Tesla's production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches. What You'll Do Plan, organize, direct, and conduct industrialization related activities within the packaging and supply chain teams. Develop, manage, audit, improve and correct supplier planning and execution of packaging manufacturing and assembly techniques and quality control processes from the advanced development phase to mass production qualification Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams. Provide input on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations, including recurrent visits to lead track and improve supplier manufacturing processes and launch readiness for new products and design changes, provide leadership on continuous improvements in scalability, cost and quality Guide suppliers in developing exceptionally robust processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high-quality products, validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers Participate in supplier tooling design reviews, mold flow analysis and DFM Review, guide suppliers in efficient use of error proofing, automation, best methods of gauging, and correct tools or assembly equipment to use Establishing Engineering standards and best practices for category areas. Resolve tooling or product manufacturing and process deviation related issues in collaboration with cross functional teams. Implement product and process improvement projects to make manufacturing assembly processes more robust and reliable with, data analysis, Six Sigma and Lean practices and tools Responsible for supplier technical evaluation, partner selection, component and technology validation, transfer, and integration, as well as identifying supply risks, mitigations and business impact. Solve critical supply quality and continuity problems with supplier SMEs, including troubleshooting at the vendor site. Track and report supplier performance metrics What You'll Bring Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Plastics Engineering or similar degree, or equivalent work experience with evidence of exceptional ability 5-7 years of experience in Manufacturing, Processing, Designing or Developing Plastic components or assemblies.
