You will work directly with production employees, maintenance technicians, quality engineers, and operations leaders. The position is designed for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who wants practical experience improving real manufacturing processes. What you will do Observe production processes and collect accurate cycle-time, downtime, labor, and material-flow data. Develop and maintain standard work instructions, process maps, labor standards, and capacity models. Help design workstation and production-line layouts that support safe and efficient work. Identify bottlenecks, unnecessary movement, waiting time, and recurring production interruptions. Support improvement projects involving line balancing, material presentation, ergonomics, and changeover reduction. Analyze production results before and after a process change and document whether the expected improvement was achieved. Participate in pilot builds and production-readiness reviews for new products. Assist with equipment justification by comparing capacity, labor, quality, and cost assumptions. Work with production employees to test proposed changes before they are introduced more broadly. Maintain project documentation and communicate progress, risks, and results to the engineering team. What you need Bachelor's degree in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, systems, or a closely related engineering field, completed by the position's start date. Understanding of process flow, capacity, time studies, basic statistics, and continuous-improvement principles. Ability to organize and analyze operational data using Excel. Clear written communication and the ability to explain technical findings to employees from different departments. Willingness to spend significant time on the production floor observing work and speaking with operators. Ability to manage several smaller assignments while meeting agreed deadlines. Previous full-time engineering experience is not required. Relevant internships, cooperative education, university manufacturing projects, military technical experience, and substantial laboratory work may be considered. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Power BI, Minitab, simulation software, Lean methods, or ergonomic assessment is helpful but not required. Engineer-in-Training certification is not required. Work environment and schedule This role is based primarily on the production floor and in the adjoining engineering office. Manufacturing areas may include machinery noise, moving equipment, temperature changes, and required personal protective equipment. The regular schedule is approximately 40 hours per week. During a new product launch, equipment installation, or major line change, the schedule may increase to approximately 45 hours. Planned Saturday work is expected fewer than six times per year. Employees receive advance notice whenever possible and may adjust their schedule during the following week with manager approval. Company-paid safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, and any task-specific safety equipment are provided. What success looks like During the first 90 days, you will learn the production process, complete safety training, participate in time studies, and take responsibility for maintaining selected work instructions and process data. By six months, you should be able to lead a defined improvement project, support a product or line change, and present results using clear operational and financial measures. Performance is evaluated through data accuracy, project follow-through, practical improvements, safety, communication, and collaboration with production employees. Engineers are not evaluated solely on estimated cost savings. Compensation and benefits Starting salary is determined by relevant engineering education, internship or cooperative experience, manufacturing knowledge, data-analysis ability, software proficiency, and demonstrated project work. The annual target bonus is 7% of base salary. Actual payment may range from 0% to 10.5% based on company performance and documented individual objectives. Medical, dental, and vision coverage with company premium contributions, an HSA option with an employer contribution, and access to virtual primary and mental-health care. 401(k) plan with a dollar-for-dollar company match on the first 5% of eligible compensation. 17 days of paid time off, 48 hours of paid sick leave, 10 company holidays, and a paid winter shutdown between scheduled production periods. Ten weeks of paid parental leave, company-paid life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage. Up to $3,000 annually for approved technical courses, certifications, conferences, or graduate-level education. Company-paid professional association membership and reimbursement for an approved Engineer-in-Training examination. Employee assistance and financial-guidance resources, plus discounts on Emberfield products. How the team works Engineers are expected to involve production employees before changing a workstation or operating procedure. The people performing the work often identify practical concerns that are not visible in a spreadsheet or layout drawing. The engineering team reviews active projects each week and shares data, assumptions, and unresolved risks. Early-career engineers receive regular coaching and gradually take responsibility for larger improvement projects. Hiring process A 30-minute introductory call with an Engineering Recruiter. A 45-minute interview with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager covering your education, project experience, and interest in plant-based engineering work. A 60-minute on-site plant tour and structured discussion with two manufacturing engineers. You will be asked to observe a sample process and explain what information you would collect before recommending a change. No advance preparation or take-home work is required. A 30-minute final conversation with the Plant Operations Director. Final reference and education-verification checks, followed by a conditional written offer and a job-related pre-employment drug screening.
