Process Engineer (Entry Level)

Bristol, RI Position Summary Vista Metals, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry Level Process Engineer to join our production team. We specialize in the manufacturing of high-performance nickel and nickel-based alloy strips. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring product quality through rigorous QC testing and driving operational efficiency through continuous process improvement. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in strip metals processing including rolling, annealing, slitting, and leveling.
Key Responsibilities Quality Control & Testing Material Validation:
Perform and oversee QC testing on nickel alloy strips to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications (e.g., tensile strength, hardness, grain size, and surface finish).
Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of test results and manage the documentation for material certifications.
Non-Conformance Management:
Identify defects or deviations in the production process; lead root-cause analysis (RCA) to determine why a failure occurred and implement corrective actions.
Equipment Calibration:
Assist in the calibration and maintenance of testing equipment to ensure data accuracy.
Process Improvement & Optimization Production Support:
Work directly on the shop floor to optimize the parameters for rolling, annealing, slitting, and leveling operations.
Waste Reduction:
Analyze scrap rates and identify opportunities to improve material yield and reduce waste. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Help develop, update, and enforce SOPs to ensure consistency.
Collaboration:
Partner with production supervisor and machine operators to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering and practical shop-floor execution.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
Analytical Skills:
Proficiency in data collection and analysis; ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Software:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data analysis).
Mindset:
A "hands-on" approach to problem-solving and a willingness to spend significant time on the production floor. Preferred Qualifications Previous internship or work experience in a metals manufacturing or industrial environment. Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other quality management systems. Basic understanding of metallurgy, with willingness to learn specifically regarding heat treatment (annealing) and metal forming/deformation.
