View More Jobs Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer - Specialist Piping & Welding Pelzer, SC, United States Job Description Vertiv is looking for Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer (Specialist Piping and Welding) to ensure the supplier adheres to strict structural and welding standards (e.g.
ASME, AWS, ISO9001
) and assesses the supplier's technical capability and compliance with industry standards and Vertiv's requirements. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining working relationships with suppliers to ensure the highest quality possible of purchased components / materials with a focus on continuous improvement, pursuing quality objectives, ensuring timely delivery of project deliverables and driving the development and continuous improvement of our supplier base.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performed technical reviews of engineering drawings, material test reports (MTRs), and welding inspection reports to verify structural integrity. Review and approve Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification Records (WPQR). Conduct on-site process and system audits at global/domestic key suppliers and new suppliers, evaluating manufacturing capabilities, welding procedures (WPS), and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) to ensure compliance with international standards (such as ASME, AWS, and ISO) as well as Vertiv drawings and specifications. Monitored and audited supplier welding operations, ensuring all materials, consumables, and weldments met strict industry and client standards. Lead supplier review and verification during development of product to assure that the requirements, concept, product or process satisfies the design requirements. Review and approve Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, weld maps, and NDT reports to maintain seamless production timelines and eliminate assembly bottlenecks. Drive supplier capability improvements, driving process controls to increase First Pass Yield (FPY). Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for fabrication issues like porosity, incomplete penetration, or contamination. Monitor and address supplier nonconformance issues by developing robust quality control plans and implementing effective, sustainable corrective actions.
Dimensional & NDT Oversight:
Validate inspection reports for dimensional accuracy, material traceability (e.g., positive material identification for stainless steel), and NDT methods (radiographic, ultrasonic, dye penetrant). Develop and execute supplier quality plans for critical welded parts ensuring 100% compliance with
ASME/AWS
engineering specifications. Led cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Procurement, Supplier Engineering) to assess supplier capability and resolve complex welding defects (e.g., porosity, lack of fusion, cracking). Tracked, trended, and reported supplier quality metrics, presenting quarterly data to stakeholders to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Drive permanent resolution of supplier issues reported by Vertiv facilities and by Customers. Lead problem definition and preventative problem solving through containment, identification of root cause and corrective action with Supplier Corrective Action Report (SCAR). Ability to simplify complex information and concisely prepare both verbal and written executive summaries for the Leadership Team. Visit Suppliers to proactively see installations and document improvement needs. Visit suppliers to understand the nature of the issue and get definite corrective action initiated in the organization. Experienced with problem solving tools and techniques (i.e. 8-D, 5 Whys, SCAR, Fishbone, Pareto, Six Sigma, PPAP). Monthly reporting and status updates to management on Supplier performance and various quality initiatives for business management. Experience handling high risk, critical projects of significant scope to the company. High technical expert, supporting all proactive, preventive and reactive strategies for supplier quality on a regional and global scope. Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, control plans, capability studies). Leader of people, mentoring and coaching others to improve organizational technical knowledge. Supports the execution and maintenance of an
ISO 9001
certified Quality Management System. Demonstrated ability manage multiple tasks based on priority, difficulty and severity. Other responsibilities may be assigned from time to time as needed, based on the evolution of the company and the requirements of the department/position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experienced professional leader with proven expertise in welding and SS Pipe fabrication Background in applying statistical tools for process and product development and control (i.e. Gage R&R, Process Capability, Control Plans, SPC, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA). At least 12 years of experience in a Welding Supplier Quality Engineer role or related fields. AWS or ASME certifications. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is highly preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree Master's Degree is a plus ASQ certifications (e.g., Certified Quality Engineer - CQE) are a plus

Frequent standing and visiting supplier and internal plant floor shops. Working in a manufacturing environment around machinery and equipment. Protective Equipment Required (safety shoes, eyewear, earplugs, gloves, etc. where required).
