Job Title:
Project Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical) Job Description This Project Engineer role focuses on the technical management of products, processes, and schedule impacts within a manufacturing environment. You will create and manage technical data, support production with clear procedures, and drive process and product improvements using structured engineering methods. The position blends hands-on engineering, documentation, customer interaction, and safety-focused responsibilities, particularly in a setting that may involve explosives and regulated processes. Responsibilities Create, review, and revise technical data packages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and suitability for production and customer requirements. Perform detailed analysis of product and process designs to support implementation in production and to improve performance, quality, and reliability. Utilize a variety of computer-based systems and tools to develop, track, and manage engineering data, documentation, and process information. Write clear, detailed procedures and work instructions for Production, and assist in training production personnel to ensure consistent and safe execution. Conduct Process Hazard Analyses as assigned or needed to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with processes and equipment. Review customer contracts to determine product specifications, technical requirements, and any additional details needed to meet customer expectations. Collaborate with others in the bid proposal process to develop technical content, estimates, and schedules that support securing customer sales. Participate in and, when needed, lead the Corrective Action Request process in partnership with other support groups to identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Oversee and support maintenance activities at the facility that could generate hazardous waste, ensuring proper environmental management and compliance with applicable regulations. Coordinate effectively with customers through verbal communication, written correspondence, presentations, and onsite visits to address technical questions and project needs. Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes and ISO requirements to ensure that products and processes meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and achieve defined goals and timelines. Perform other work-related duties as assigned to support engineering, production, and continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a college or university, such as mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of related engineering experience and/or training preferred. Knowledge and understanding of failure analysis techniques and tools. Ability to conduct Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA) as preventive activities. Experience with or exposure to an OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated work environment preferred. Experience with ammunition, arms, or explosives design and/or development for Department of Defense (DOD) programs preferred. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and their application to product and process design. Understanding and application of ISO requirements upon hire. Ability to interface effectively and efficiently with customers through verbal communication, written documentation, presentations, and onsite visits. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues across functions. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in support of defined goals and end results. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set and establish priorities. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Function-specific RCRA training will be required upon hire. Eligibility to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended), as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Minimum age of 18 years to work at the facility. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineering degree with a focus on process improvement, product improvement, and structured problem-solving. Experience in process design and product design within a manufacturing environment. Hands-on manufacturing experience, including exposure to process improvement initiatives. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and vendors to address technical and commercial topics. Mechanical engineering background or experience is highly relevant. Comfort using a variety of computer-based systems for engineering analysis, documentation, and data management. Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to documentation, procedures, and quality standards. Work Environment This role is based on-site in a manufacturing and engineering facility and follows a 9/80 schedule, providing a structured workweek with periodic extended weekends. The position involves extensive computer use and seated work for variable amounts of time, combined with frequent standing and walking both indoors and outdoors. You will regularly use your hands to handle components, operate equipment, and manage documentation, and you may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds, with rare requirements to move materials up to 50 pounds by lifting, pushing, or pulling, and more than 50 pounds with assistance. The job requires bending, kneeling, or squatting for tasks such as filing or moving materials. Visual demands include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus, particularly when working with computer monitors and detailed technical documents. The environment may occasionally expose you to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives, so strict adherence to safety procedures is essential. Ear protection is required in designated areas of the facility. To mitigate electrostatic discharge, employees must wear clothing that is at least 50 percent cotton, including undergarments, and must wear company-issued safety footwear as part of the standard dress code. The facility operates under structured safety and environmental regulations, including RCRA and PSM-related practices, and emphasizes teamwork, clear communication, and continuous improvement.
