Job Title:
Construction Field Engineer (Industrial Manufacturing) In support of our client, a global automotive OEM, we are currently seeking an experienced Construction Field Engineer (Industrial Manufacturing) to support facility expansion projects and ongoing facilities modifications. This program-based assignment will be located at our client's facility in Smyrna, Tennessee and will work directly with our client's Facility Engineering and Project Management team and vendors to provide leadership and administration for various projects. The individual we seek will have an accredited engineering degree with experience in the design and construction of industrial facilities. This is a long-term assignment with an expected duration of 18+ months. As a Field Engineer (Owner's Representative) , you will play a critical role in overseeing and ensuring the successful execution of construction activities on a large-scale industrial project. This includes technical support for clients operations, manages large capital projects and drives standardization across the region. You will act as the Owner's on-site representative ensuring that all phases of the engineering and construction process align with the project's scope, schedule, quality standards, and budget. You will work closely with contractors, design teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met, risks are managed, and issues are swiftly resolved.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Site Supervision :
Serve as the Owner's Representative on-site, ensuring that construction is carried out per design specifications, industry standards, and the Owner's expectations.
Quality Control :
Monitor construction activities to ensure work meets or exceeds project standards, codes, and regulations, with a focus on quality workmanship and materials.
Safety Oversight :
Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols, identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards on the job site.
Schedule Monitoring :
Track project progress and performance against the construction schedule, identify potential delays, and work with contractors to implement corrective actions to keep the project on track.
Cost Control :
Support cost management activities by monitoring expenditures, reviewing contractor invoices, and ensuring cost-effective solutions are implemented.
Issue Resolution :
Identify, document, and resolve any technical or construction issues that arise, ensuring minimal impact to project timelines.
Coordination :
Act as a liaison between the Owner, contractors, subcontractors, and project design team, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
Reporting :
Provide regular reports to the Project Manager on construction progress, potential risks, and any changes in scope or schedule.
Documentation :
Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including RFIs (Request for Information), daily reports, change orders, submittals, and as-built drawings.
Risk Management :
Proactively identify risks and provide recommendations for mitigating strategies to ensure project success.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- 5+ years of experience in construction management, engineering, or as an Owner's Representative, preferably on large industrial construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, building codes, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in project management and construction software tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations on construction sites.

AutoCAD and MS Office Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Knowledge of Lean Construction, Six Sigma, or other efficiency-improvement methodologies.
- Previous experience with automotive-related industrial projects.
- Experience managing subcontractors and complex supply chains.
Work Environment:
This is a full-time, on-site role located near Smyrna, TN. The role requires frequent visits to the construction site, involving standing, walking, and being in outdoor environments for extended periods.
