Job Title:
Industrial Engineer - Health, Safety, and Process Compliance Job Description This Industrial Engineer role focuses on driving health and safety excellence, process safety management, and regulatory compliance within a dynamic manufacturing environment. You will lead the continued development and implementation of safety programs, oversee compliance with OSHA and Department of Defense standards, and support cross-functional teams to achieve safety, production, quality, and cost objectives. The position combines quantitative analysis, process hazard analysis, documentation, and training to ensure a safe and efficient operation. Responsibilities Lead the continued development, implementation, and improvement of health and safety programs to support safety, production, quality, and cost goals across the facility. Provide safety leadership and technical assistance to operations, engineering, quality, maintenance, and hourly personnel, ensuring consistent adherence to safety standards. Manage company compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), including coordinating, implementing, and documenting all 14 elements of the
OSHA PSM
standard. Lead and document Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) for new and existing processes, ensuring thorough identification and mitigation of risks. Ensure company compliance with OSHA 29 CFR and DOD 4145.26M, including the development, maintenance, and enforcement of site safety plans. Create and maintain site safety plans that incorporate CAD models, supporting evidence, and detailed safety information. Conduct regular audits of the site, facilities, processes, and safety protocols, and develop corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings. Lead and participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Prepare, deliver, and continuously improve effective employee training programs related to safety, environmental health, and health and safety procedures. Perform extensive quantitative analysis to assess risk levels, such as calculating material quantities in specific areas and evaluating potential hazards. Produce detailed reports and documentation related to safety performance, compliance status, PHA outcomes, and audit results. Coordinate and collaborate closely with R D, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, and other functional groups to integrate safety and compliance into all processes. Communicate safety expectations, findings, and recommendations effectively across different functional groups and organizational levels. Manage multiple priorities and tasks, ensuring that critical safety and compliance deadlines are met, including working extended hours when needed. Support and collaborate with inspectors, manufacturing teams, and supplier quality engineering (SQE) to maintain safe and compliant operations. Essential Skills Proven experience in occupational safety, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering within a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of
OSHA 29 CFR
requirements and the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) standard, including all 14 elements. Experience leading and documenting Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for new and existing processes. Knowledge of and experience ensuring compliance with DOD 4145.26M, including the development and maintenance of site safety plans. Strong experience in health and safety, environmental health, and safety program implementation and auditing. Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver effective employee training programs on safety and related topics. Strong quantitative analysis skills, including the ability to perform detailed calculations to assess potential hazards and risk levels. High level of proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to effectively communicate across different functional groups with strong oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to work extended hours when needed to meet critical deadlines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a focus in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering preferred. Alternatively, 5 or more years of equivalent experience in a similar managerial-level role in a manufacturing facility. Experience in industrial engineering concepts such as plant design and plant layout. Experience with occupational safety practices and EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) compliance. Familiarity with 2D CAD software (such as DraftSight or similar 2D tools) for creating and interpreting models used in site safety plans. Experience with heavy reporting and documentation, including safety reports, audit findings, and PHA documentation. Experience conducting safety training and working with inspectors, manufacturing teams, and supplier quality engineering. Relevant safety certifications such as OSHA 30 or similar are advantageous. Experience in environments involving complex or hazardous products, where rigorous safety and compliance standards are required. Comfort working in a cross-functional, growth-oriented team with a focus on continuous improvement. Work Environment This role is based in a clean, modern manufacturing facility that produces technically advanced products with significant real-world impact. The position follows a 9/80 work schedule, typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on standard days with a one-hour lunch, and 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays worked, providing every other Friday off. There is some flexibility to adjust start and end times by about an hour, as long as the schedule remains consistent. You will work closely with a cross-functional team that includes R D, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, inspectors, and supplier quality engineering. The safety engineer is part of a growing engineering team, reporting into the manufacturing engineering organization and collaborating with multiple departments rather than being siloed.
